Hydraulic jack stuck down

I got one jack that is stuck down. I had the issue once before and was able to prY up using shovel. Now my son has it Nd put it down and says that won't work. Any ideas? How tough are they to take off and get rebuilt? And how expensive is that to do. Not looking to spend much more on this RV...ready to get rid of soon I hope!

Simple answer. IF you have HWH jacks and you have to PRY it to retract, then the cylinder must be replaced. When Inner seals of an HWH jack fail, they will sometimes work but if they ever fail to retract and you must lever/pry it up, that means the Solenoid is OK. Otherwise you could not pry it up. So, I would suggest you either rebuild that bad jack or replace it. Doug

That has yet to be demonstrated to my satisfaction.

I really don't care what you think you know. I have almost 35 years of installing and repairing HWH jack systems. I KNOW what I am talking about. I can get a defective jack to operate when extending and retracting. The TEST is to extend the jacks and let sit for a few days. When that happens the bad jack will usually fail to fully retract. AND, if under HWH warranty and this happens, HWH will send me a new jack. NO questions about how often it is failing. I don't know why people like to argue things when they have no knowledge about what they are talking about. Doug
  • I think dougrainer is correct about the internal seals. I had my front jacks do that once when they were hot from traveling all day. That is the only time they bothered and when cool they go right up. That was a few years ago and I haven't fixed it because they work fine cool.

Now that we are home the jack works normally. How do you fix some thing that ain't broke?

I will clean the gland nut and seal and see what happens in the future.
Removing the jack involves 2 big Springs that I don't know how to deal with yet.

In the case of Leveling jacks.. Well. Two things
But how do you fix something that ain't broke

LUBRICATE.. as per manual instructions LUBRICATE.

Now one time I had jacks freeze to the ground. that was fun. But I broke 'em loose

Next time I put wood blocks between jack and ground. Jack came off the block easily but block was froze solid to the ground..

Pulled off Walked back and gave the block a gentle tap with my 8 pound sledge and it broke free nicely.
