- LipetsExplorerI thought NewMar uses their own design which holds up well
- moishehExplorerSlides have always been the weak point in many MH's. But the fault lies with the mfrs. trying to save a few $$ and using systems that are doomed to fail. Lower end Monacos use the cable systems that are problematic. Better built MH's will have hydraulic units and hopefully by HWH. Our Dynasty has 3 hydraulic slides and for some reason one electric. We did have one cylinder that leaked but otherwise so far so good. Our 05 Bounder DP uses Power Gear electric slides and they have never been serviced nor repaired! No cables. Simple rack and pinion setup. Any Lippert components on a MH or trailer are junk when they were installed.

I had a major issue with my cable driven main slideout. Every trip the same cable would break. I took it to the local HR dealer at the time...they had it for four weeks and did not fix it. Next I tried two different repair facilities. Repairs were paid for by Monaco but not much luck in getting it fixed for long. Then Monaco closed up and I was on my own. I posted here and a member here (BalJohn) who works for BAL-Norco the makers of the Accuslide slideout contacted me. We made arrangements for me to take the coach to Elkhart and a friend of mine, with the same coach as mine, traveled with us. BAL techs met us at Elkhart Service and Collision where they repaired our problems. That was three and a half years ago and the fix has lasted until a few weeks ago when I had to replace a cable after repairing a slide out leak. But that is another story.
The point is...the dealer might not be able to handle this repair. You may have better success with the slideout factory techs handling this problem. I suspect they want their product to work and should offer the same level of service of BAL, the company that they compared themselves to in their video. If they can't do that then they should not be claiming that their slideout is better than the "outdated cable driven" one.
Interesting you had and are continuing to have issues with your Monaco. That just cracks me up cause I did a little Google earth tour to where the Thor factory is that specifically produces the Palazzo. Guess where it is??? In the exact same old Monaco Factory! Some things never change. - toolttimeExplorerThings happen and they will surely get it right.

And there has been pain, real pain. On the other hand it's still square after 30 years.
- 93mastercraftExplorer IIWhen I returned the Palazzo back to CW yesterday I also noticed an issue with the smaller bedroom slide on the other side of the coach. It does not fully retract on the bottom. One can put your entire hand under the slide in between the weatherstrip and the outside wall. The problems just keep mounting up.
I think we all know, including Thor, that the Schwintek motors and mechanism is just not enough to operate these large and small slide outs. One observation I have made is that the problems become increasingly worse in the cold. These slide units with the rubber weatherstrips become very hard in the cold. The low torque motors and poor components that make up the schwintek stuff were just not made for that kind of load, especially when things are hard and cold. I am beside myself. I am not an engineer and I can figure that one out. - LipetsExplorer

I didn't know anything about the issues with the slides on the Palazzo, but was already approved for financing on the BH model when we decided to take at least one more trip to the dealer to be sure. We ended up looking at everything else on the lot and opting for the Newmar Ventana LE 3845 BH instead, mostly because of the side wall construction and the full pass-through basement storage. Now I feel like we made a great decision even though we didn't know about the slide issues.

I was going to get the Palazzo also, but with not only slide issues but several other issues reported on Irv2.net, I'm going with a NewMar also the 3436 LE.
Palazzo may need time to get things fixed with these defects, but I don't want to spend time in the shop or back at the factory waiting to get back on the road.
It is a good floor plan, but that's only one factor in the purchase.
. - 93mastercraftExplorer IIYes, the large slides with the Lippert Shwintek motors is just not enough to operate this large slideout.
