Take it to Xtreme Paint & Graphics in Nacogdoches, TX. They will do it right (better than factory) and you will not have to worry about it.
So, now the Palazzo needs paint work. How do I inspect this paint work? How do I know it is painted back to factory specs? Does anyone know what kind of paint is used on these RV's? What is the best way to inspect this paint job? - 93mastercraftExplorer IISo, now the Palazzo needs paint work. How do I inspect this paint work? How do I know it is painted back to factory specs? I am late comer to this but I find it very interesting to read what issues there are with units out there and the solution. DW and I looked at a new Palazzo as we loved the floor plan. Salesman unlocked the door for us to go in to look it over and the slide is torn apart with a bad motor on the floor and new motor ready to be installed. That was huge turnoff to us but we did take it for a drive. That was the clincher for me. It was like trying to herd a chicken down the road. Too bad as it had a lot of really good features. We elected to buy an experienced unit. It has not been perfect either.
The one week our Palazzo has been in our possession I had the opportunity to put a lttle over 150 miles on it. Woohoo! But I experienced the exact opposite. I think it drives like a dream. The Freight-liner chassis and Cummins rides and sounds nice. It's everything else about the RV that makes it bad. It's a shame Thor desecrated a decent chassis like that. - G_LewisExplorerthegrunt wrote:
Sorry to rain on your parade, but Tiffin is no saint either. I thought they would make a better RV, but this is not the case either as Tiffin uses schwintek slide mechanism as well. i think I can say this asI am an owner of a 2012 Tiffin allegro with schwintek slide problems.
You are correct. Tiffin has problems too, however the 2014 Breeze BR has hydrolic slide mechanisms, the larger units, such as yours, have the Schwintek mechanism. My friend has a 2013 Breeze with few small problems...the dealer cleared all of them. FYI The 2014 Breeze has been upgraded to Independent Front Suspension, vs solid axle as before. - AwilsonExplorerI am late comer to this but I find it very interesting to read what issues there are with units out there and the solution. - thegruntExplorerI own a 2013 THOR ACE 30.1 and have had numerous issues, yes the small ones that come from a new unit, but also a few bigger ones one including the slide motor, on with the kitchen faucet I a can go on and on, when we first bought but the unit it was in the shop for 5 out of the 6 months we owned it, all is fixed now and the MH is sleeping for the winter, we will see what next year brings, bottom line will not buy a THOR unit again and looking to get out of this ASAP. happy holidays to all

I am happy that some Thor owners are pleased with their units. I note that many take their units back to the factory for repair....mostly the slides. I know most new motorhomes require repairs, usually minor, but slide problems are a major part of a unit and taking it to the factory for repair should not be necessary. I really like the Thor floorplans and was dissappointed in their overall QC program and their selection of slide hardware.
Having the right dealership is a big plus for me. The techs at my local dealer are top notch and do stuff right. I have always heard buying from CW can get you a good deal but you don't want them serviced there. Hopefully the barrage of slide issues will force the hand and have them start using better mechanisms. No doubt contracts and money is involved.
Well said. The dealer can sure make your life easier. My dealer is very good, but does not sell Thor products. One of the reasons I am shopping Tiffin is because of them...they also sell Fleetwood and a couple of other brands. I think we would pay a little more for better quality parts.

The Schwintek system is definitely the crux of the matter here...... Just one replacement of these has created a domino effect of other issues which needs to be addressed by body work and paint. That is totally unacceptable.
Yes, to a large degree, the Schwintek system is the crux, but what I saw and experienced was a total more a lack of quality control and a corporate attitude that rams a patch job down your throat and calls it fixed. After the techs at CW replaced the Schwintek tracks, Mine was still so bad, they had to fly in a factory "expert" to identify the problems. We've been RVing for over 27 years, starting with a new '87 Toyota Dolphin. I'd had the unit for three years and was living in it full time due to a late career military assignment before I had to take it to the shop. The Thor was out fifth unit, the third Class A and was only the second unit at the time that we bought new. My punch list for the Thor quality control issues far exceeded all other units added together. As stated in an above post, I by the time I got the unit back, I had totally lost faith in the units ability to provide reasonably long term worry free service and Thor itself. - JTHarleyExplorerHow very sad this thread is…….I too hope Thor and other manufacturers out there are watching and listening!!! I don't care if Thor has contracts with Shwintek, if the product is sub par and causing problems they can certainly get out of that contract and put a more tried and true system in their coaches. The problem as I see it is if Thor makes a statement by canceling a contract or eliminating these slide mechanisms they are in essence admitting they have sold units to the public that have a potential BIG problem. This would most likely open them up to a class action law suit by owners who are having slide issues.
I've found there is no worse issue to come up than a slide issue! Very few of the house systems will stop you getting from point A to point B with the exception of a slide that will not go in or one that goes in and skews or stresses the structure. Once that happens it is hard to ever make it right again. I feel your pain…. - G_LewisExplorer
