Installed new batteries , CAT diesel won't fire at all ??

seahunter 1.....I know how frustrating it is when you do a simple task and it messes up something else. "hershey" was correct when he stated you may have put the cables on wrong or missed a smaller diameter cable that sends power to the ECM.

My brother in law pulled his batteries out the other day and had a similar issue and had a no start situation on a Cat. Double check the cables and look for a smaller one that may have been left off.

Sorry you got a burr under your saddle Seahunter. Opinions is what your looking for when you post a query to this forum.
I understand that you engine does turn over...but it isn't starting. My MH has several different cables and wires going to the batteries. If any one of those wires is left unhooked or placed on the wrong battery lug your going to have a problem. I'm really sorry your having a problem, I've had problems that left me stranded and short tempered with the world trying to help. Good luck solving your problem. Just delete any advice you don't like to hear.

Seahunter, your problem sounds almost like the issue I had recently (see my post "CAT 3126 No Start" from a few days ago). I never did determine the exact cause; I had a mobile mechanic ready to leave his shop to come to me when my engine started. The only thing I did differently was to leave my battery disconnect ON overnight.

I had tried all the things you tried and nothing helped. Then, after leaving the chassis battery disconnect on overnight, I gave it one more try. Started right up. I've since driven the coach and it continued to start and run fine.

There should be a fuse (about 20 amp?) in one of the wires connected at the batteries. Since you saw sparks, you may have blown that fuse. Please recheck all your connections, including any inline fuse, and see if it will start.

Don't be offended by posts that have nothing to do with your problem. Many people will offer advice based on their experience, which may be with a different engine and doesn't apply to you at all. Just separate the wheat from the chaff, and let the chaff blow away.

I really appreciate a response that's addressing my problem and not just someone tossing me some of their poor humor .
Times like this ,when your rig won't start , the last thing you need is humor of any kind .
Now I have to find a diesel mechanic that will come out to the storage yard and fix it .
Then I am selling ,,,'98 30 ft Safari Sahara DP with one slide out .

CAT does not have fuel cut-off valve.
If no black smoke from exhaust then no fuel.
Everything is controlled by the engine control module (ECM). If you somehow lost power to the ECU, it will turnover but will not allow fuel into the injectors.
The fuel is regulated by the injector actuation sensor and valve. No power - no fuel. Most DP with CAT, require a fuse/circuit breaker to the ECM. Maybe a call in to the Chassis Maker not motor home manf. Will explain what and where. Since it is the Chassis OEM that does that part.

If it ran before the battery change, then you obviously have something wrong with the battery connection.
Closing the gate after the horses have run away, today its so easy to take a picture with smartphones or cameras of the wiring before removing a single cable.
