Is the RV Doctor wrong?

Never had a problem. I suppose if you were to dump pure bleach in and then pump it through the system you could have a problem. But were not doing that. At the rate normally suggested is just above municipal levels so whats the problem?

Ya, if you filled the tank and left it there, but if you hold the level down to "normal" levels and then dump it.

Yes, in time, bleach will surely damage your seals. What's wrong with good old soap and water? That's all I ever use. Why would one want to sanitize the tanks? Probley hard on the dump station enzymes also.

You would dump soap into your potable water tank? Yuk!

a little bit of bleach will go a long, long way. No need to use gallons of the stuff, a few tablespoons will do... let it set, then fill and flush a few times and you are good to go.

You use soap and water to sanitize your fresh water tank??

What's wrong is
1 you are not sanitizing your tank
2 you're going to get sick since you can't get all the soap out

I remember reading somewhere that to use HP for sanitizing a fresh water tank you must use Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, not the type you buy at the drug store, WalMart, etc..

The Food Grade HP has a higher concentration, 30% or something like that.
The drug store HP is only 1 or 2%. Plus it contains other chemicals.

I've used a little bleach to sanitize our tank & system for years with no problem.

You don't need to use gallons, just a small amount.

in the pharmaceutical industry 30% hydrogen peroxide is used for surface sterilization. the stuff from drug stores is what 5% and then diluted down to 0.005 %. just how effective will that be? if HP works for you, then your system didn't need sanitization in the first place.

Well, you sanitize your tanks for potability and palatability. Adding soap to your fresh water doesn't really enhance either, IMHO.
