Kwikee level jacks won't come up

2006 Winnebago Sightseer. I was in a campground for five months until yesterday. Yesterday, my Kwikee hydraulic level jacks came up ok and I drove a couple of hundred miles and then put them down at this campground. Now they will not come up.

Myself and two nearby rvers who said they are electrical engineers have tried everything in the owners manual, from unplugging, turning off, and replugging (about a dozen times!) to finally getting out the emergency retract harness, which also did not work.

Luckily I did purchase a five year warranty with my rig in February, and luckily I don't have to leave here until Monday, and luckily I have a toad if I have to go somewhere in an emergency, but I sure do wish these levelers would come up.

Any ideas?
  • "Whatever" it is, I personally can't fix it and...I'm free to travel tomorrow. Happy! Luckily I have an extended warranty and they are aware I'll be having those done once I get to where I'm parking for three months. :)
  • I'm going to question whether it's really the control panel that is bad........after all, you said you said the emergency retract harness didn't work.......

The whole purpose of the emergency retract harness is......in case the control panel goes bad (Which they do) to retract the jacks into the all up position......

The fact that the emergency retract harness did not work tells me it's more likely something to do with the pump......perhaps the big silver relay strapped to the pump......

If it is your control panel.........be sure you are sitting down when you get quoted a price for it.......:E
  • Coming back with more information for the next person to have this problem.

On this forum and others and on Facebook, I had "experts" (cough cough) telling me to "drain the hydraulic fluid and use a 2x4 to raise them." Um...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It took a while out here in the boonies to get a mobile mechanic to come out. It turns out I have a bad control panel. The technician did release a little fluid (which I would have had no way of knowing how to do that) and it took him, a professional and a strong man (I'm a solo female) an hour to get all four of them up using proper equipment. (Apparently if he would have drained ALL of the fluid it would have been easy, but a huge mess in the RV park. A huge no-no!)

I talked to several RV shops who didn't do mobile repair and they all said NO do NOT release that fluid in the RV park and NO do NOT use 2x4s. Yes, the professional who came out released a little fluid, he had to, but he knew what he was doing. Recommending that someone who knows nothing to try this is foolishness.

So, I'm not repaired, but I'm safe to go up the road and I'll be boondocking in truck stops for a couple of nights, then my final destination is a level campground with concrete pad. I'll get a new control panel once I reach my three-month stop.

So relieved to finally be able to leave tomorrow. Stressful few days!
  • Um, I don't even know what those posts mean, sorry but thank you for trying. Roadside Assistance is coming tomorrow.
  • Kwikee Jacks are 2 way hydraulic..... There are no Springs to retract the cylinders.....

If you do drain off the hydraulic fluid... You are going to need a pry bar and brute strength to get them to retract....

I would try hot wiring the pump while the retract harness is plugged in....
  • If all else fails, get under (safely) and disconnect the hydraulic lines at the distribution manifold and let the pressure bleed off. It will make a mess, but the jacks will retract.
  • Yes, brake is set. I can stay here until Monday or Tuesday so I'm going to call the warranty folks in the morning. In my post I noted that we already did all of the re-set instructions from the manual.

I searched the forums but nothing fit the problem.

Hoping someone has some helpful advice please!
  • Emergency road service might be able to help. I seem to remember something just recently about a reset, instructions on how to do it. Maybe someone read the same post?

Is emergency break set? Just a thought.
