Maxx Air vent fan (UPDATED WITH NEW INFO)

Thanks for the info Doug. I'll try the ground fix and see what happens. I'm sure it's over 7 years old.

Yeah it is a Fantastic Fan. I found out it was just a MaxxAir
filter that someone put on it.

On top accessed from the roof is a metal pin switch(looks just like old automobile door pin switches) that closes the contac (ground) to run the fan. usually, that pin switch gets loose. You use a 7/16 wrench and tighten the pin switch to make a good ground contac. That pin switch is what stops the Fan motor from running when the lid is closed. Odds are you have a bad control board. Fantastic will supply a new inner housing with the switches and control board. If free will depend on if it is more than 5 years old. Doug

I would almost agree with you BigRabbitMan, but I can not imagine the vent lid motor running continuously after it is turned off and then back on. That would make no sense whatsoever. I would also think that I could open the vent lid with the fan speed turned off and then turn it on and it should work extracting air. Presently, the fan motor must be turned on when you are opening the lid.

There is no rain sensor.

I've emailed Fantastic Vent and hopefully they will respond.

5. When it is closing in the auto mode, the fan does shut the fan off when it gets down almost closed.

6. When I manually open the vent and turn the fan on, everything works normally EXCEPT when I turn the fan off and then turn it back on. When I turn it back on, I can hear the auto close motor running but it does not close. This is with the knob pulled out (manual mode). I can't get the auto close motor to stop running until I push the knob back in (auto mode). It will then close the vent and shut the fan back off. I have to manually open the vent and turn the fan back on to get it to go again.

7. The temperature sensor does work as it should.

I think this is not the way it's supposed to work. I have no idea where to look for the problem.

That is a base model and it is working just as it was designed. Do you know if it has a rain sensor so that it will close automatically if rain is detected? You will have to go up on the roof with it open to see if that is incorporated into your model or not since you do not have the manual for it. I used to have a FF in a Rockwood TT. The "auto" feature was a thermostat control that shut the fan off when it got cool enough at night. But the lid wasn't automatic, just manual crank.
