I have been parking my Class A's (first my Damon Intruder and now my Fleetwood Pace Arrow) on my black top driveway for about 7 years now. Even though I had lumber under the wheels you can imagine the dips the wheels caused!I have a large driveway (it's large to me) and so I am having my concrete guy do a heavy, reinforced slab where I park the coach and I am having him run a walk along the edge out to the road. My plan is to eventually do the whole drive in concrete but it will have to be done in phases.Cutting the blacktop:All done saw cutting. The space I am having done for the coach is 11' wide by 30' long.The tear-out. What a mess!Much cleaner now!View from the road:The next phase is a bit more gravel, compacting then reinforcement rebar, then pour.I will update as we progress and when it is finished!

stugpanzer, Outstanding partner! To me, there is absolutely nothing better than concrete. I really like decorative pavers and, if done correctly, they will support even the heaviest diesel coach out there but, the cost can be seriously prohibitive. So, Concrete is the name of the game. It's too bad you have to do it in phases but, I most certainly understand. May I ask, are you getting steel re-enforced or, fibermesh? We're presently awaiting some bids on colored concrete for the side yard parking where guest motor homes and our boat parks. It's presently colored decomposed granite and, is really flat and nice but, both the wife and I hate those little tiny gravel pieces being tracked into the nice garage next to that parking or, even into the new house. So, concrete is in our near future too. Scott

We did this because that side of the drive had been worn down from people parking on the edge and it just looked terrible! We love our wrap-around covered porch too! We have added on to our house a couple times and that was one of the bonuses that came out of one of those additions. Many houses today don't have that feature and those people are really missing something!

Can't say it's just a Texas thing. Your place looks HUGE!! Very Nice!!! It's great we can help the in-laws. My mother inlaw has been on her own for 20 years now and we have a bunch of crazy gals her age & older within a few homes from us that are just waiting for her to arrive. They will keep her busy. :B
We love being outside and have our dream property almost the way we want it. We built our pool after the kids grew & absolutely love it. We spend a lot of time in it, but it is central Texas!! LOL

My neighbor did his parking area in Asphalt but soon the tires were making a dent so then the tires were sitting in water. 40 ft DP.

great pictures and idea on the posts above. I did our parking area 5" thick with 1/2 rebar on 16" squares then cut with a skill saw at 9 feet where the rolling pattern had a straight line across the width. Not one crack and the ground is clay but I used sill seal to keep the new concrete separate from the driveway slab.

We made the 2nd floor a condo that my mother inlaw is going to use. We actually still have some work to finish the upstairs (cabinets, counters, & kitchen appliances) in the next few weeks. I actually had an elevator installed. Can't believe I have an elevator in my garage. :R

The DW & I love the paint job you have on your RV!!! We will eventually get ours repainted full body.

BTW....We have an 'in-law' wing on the back of our house. We moved my in-laws in about 10 years ago. My mother-in-law passed about 6 years ago and my father-in-law is still there. When they moved in I gave him the rear of the garage for woodworking, etc and over time, he now has the entire garage and I really don't mind. I am just happy that he is happy and content and can toil and make things out there whenever he wants!

This image is a birds-eye view of our property. You can see the driveway and the RV which is where the concrete pad was poured (bottom). The In-Law wing is the part that parallels with the garage (middle left). The pool is going away and a new concrete patio will be poured in 2~3 weeks.

Looks great!! My foundation guy made sure that our RV garage had a plenty of support for any RV we wanted to park. He did extensive rebar & 6" plus, 2' wide x 2' deep concrete beam runners in the area of the tires.

BTW, the DW & I absolutely agree about the wrap around covered porch. We designed our dream house in 1986 & finally built it 10 years ago!! :-).

I missed getting pictures of the rebar before the pour, but my concrete guy put extra rebar in the areas where the tires and jacks will be. I am very satisfied with the results so far. Now I need to wait 7~10 days to park on it. here are some photos of the almost finished project! As you can see we brought some dirt in to grade from the drive and also to fill ruts we put in the neighbors yard...I also filled a couple extra holes that he had as a favor! The dirt is graded and seeded. For those that are curious, this project is costing me $3100.

What I was saying that for very little more money, over regular stained concrete, you can get "stamped" concrete. I don't doubt that stamped concrete will always be more expensive than individual pavers, but the benefits of reinforced concrete is well worth it when used as a place to park a heavy vehicle.
Good point, depending on the condition of the underlying soil, the concrete will probably hold up for RV use better than pavers.

As for cost, the stamped concrete will run $10 - $15 a square foot and the plain concrete will run $6 - $12 a square foot.
