number of class A motorhomes in use in the USA

Still not sure I want to pull up behind a motorhome at a stoplight that is dumping liquid poo into their exhaust pipe.

I find this interesting.
As I was the last engineer on the commercial Thermasan (Thetford - Ann Arbor, MI) program. We found the EPA's interference insurmountable. Many states already had laws that prohibited the modification of a vehicle exhaust system. So, unless the vehicle were shipped with the Thermasan unit installed, there was little possibility of aftermarket.

As far as no odor, at IC engine exhaust temperatures, that is hard to believe. We had to work very hard at controlling the injection rate to prevent the entire lab from an aroma of "roasted diaper".

Diesels are even worse. They do pump more air, but the exhaust flame temperatures are always lower.

It doesn't dump the material out the exhaust pipe - it incinerates the waste in the exhaust system.

There is an EPA certification for the system / process for marine use on the web site. I can't say if the marine EPA requirements are more strict or less strict than normal waste treatment standards. But it is obvious they are working with the EPA.

While the concept might not be new - I'm hopeful some new technology has been applied to make the system more efficient, more cost effective.

However, I wonder if this is suitable for many RVs - it would seen to require a high number of hours of an engine running. (I see a greater market in the marine recreation area.)

Kudos to the group for working and thinking outside the box. We do need people to develop and try different things. If we accept the status quo, we will never see improvement.

(Yes, I have no clue how to improve the waste situation - which is why I want to see other peoples ideas.)

Many states the department of Motor Vehicles sells registration information to anyone willing to come up with the fee, fee varies depending on many things so i can not even guess what it is.

NOTE: that this is a violation of the state's privacy laws in most cases but .. Well, it happens.

This is why when you register a new RV you suddenly get flyers in your mail box from campgrounds and such.

I offer this info only as a place to start..

NOW: As I said, selling the names and addresses of RV owners in most cases violates state privacy laws... But it still gets done.

For a much smaller fee you might be able to get a report:

XXXX Pop up trailers
XXXX RV Trailers (other than pop up)
XXXX class a,b,c motor homes

This isn't really new, look up 'thermassan'. With technology it might work better now, especially with the heat added by the catalytic converter.

The best place to find the number of motor homes in use would be the secretary of state offices.

I looked at the website and think that this is a viable alternative to tanks and dumping. The only question I have is how does it work if I am boondocking for a length of time without running my engine?

It basically sounds like an Incinerating Toilet type of system that uses engine exhaust heat, rather than electric or natural gas. Perhaps if you had an electric option and a propane option, it would make it more appealing to those that boonedock away from sewerage facilities.
For those of us that have ready access to RV parks with sewerage or a dump station, it would be hard to justify the cost of something that is not needed. I'm not saying that it is not a good idea, but if I have a place to dump my sewerage for free, why would I spend the money to handle it with an incinerator type system? I am still going to pay the same at the RV park so it is not like I could calculate a return on my investment for this system.

I am not the inventor but I know it has been approved by the Coast Guard for use on boats and ships and has met their pollution requirements which as I understand parrot EPA's. I have seen it in operation installed in a display trailer that can be taken to shows. The waste is eliminated and there is no odor. I am sure Namon the inventor can be more specific.

A very interesting concept. Questions: Since your invention is dependent on exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and since many of us sit in one location, immobile for various lengths of time, wouldn't holding tanks still be necessary? How would the addition of this device affect the manufacturer's power train warranty? Since you are injecting human waste into the exhaust do you need EPA certification? How much maintenance is required? What is the estimated cost of your device when mass produced?

Actual number of registered motorhomes information should be available from each state's department of motor vehicles (I am assuming here, I have never actually looked for this information). There probably are fees involved since you are a business basically looking for advertising. That might also explain why you didn't get a timely response from the other organizations you contacted - try again, but be straight forward as to why you want the information, and again there might be cost involved.
