If the 7500 is like the 8000 you should be able to get your hand on the starter from the door where the fuel pump and filter are located.

You might be able to jiggle the connectors from there but that's probably about it.

Tinkerer,
As you face the front, the starter (with attached solenoid) will be on the right side of the little Kubota diesel, opposite of the muffler.

Thanks for the nice comments. By the way, here's the schedule for starting an Onan Diesel unit:

Pre-heat times
Coolant temp> 120 degrees..... 0 seconds
Coolant temp 50 degrees..... 5 seconds
Coolant temp 23 degrees.....10 seconds
Coolant temp < 4 degrees.....15 seconds

Wow, I never thought about glow plugs being the reason there's a delay sometimes in starting (after priming, fuel pump starting, etc.). I should, since I have glow plugs on 2 other vehicles. I have an Onan 15kW genset, but I guess smaller is much the same.

Fire up, that was a very interesting post. I always wondered how the codes were read with that little red light on the rocker switch. Good info!

I agree with Big Katuna that in cold weather, you have to hold the rocker switch down for a few seconds before it will crank up. The colder the temperature, the longer it will take before it cranks up.

Mine has never given any problems. It is a very good generator.

I believe that you are saying that your generator completes the prime cycle, but nothing happens when it should be engaging the starter. My QD8000 did the same thing about a year ago. One of the spade connectors on the starter solenoid was loose and had probably developed some corrosion on the terminal.

The good news is that the problem was quickly solved with a pair of needle nose pliers. The bad news is that the problem terminal/connector was practically impossible to get to without removing a bunch of parts.

The clicking is the fuel pump. If you are in Wisconsin, you may have to hold the button down several minutes for the glow plugs to reach temperature before it will attempt to start.
