- EffyExplorer IISeems like a bad idea. Slides are built for in or out. One sure way to find out. Call the manufacturer.
- drabooExplorerWe will be living it over the winter(in west/central Oregon). We are under a roof built for a 5th wheel, so the side supports prevent us from extending it fully.
I should have been a bit more clear with my post. Will not extending it fully damage the rail system?. Seems to me that if it's not fully extended, there is less overhanging the side and there would be less stress on the slideout. We can deal with it not being sealed by sealing it in other ways.
Thanks!
Brad - ljr869ExplorerI have 2 slides and they are both different. One is straight in-n-out with rubber gaskets that seal it the entire time regardless of its position. The other has a little ramp that it slides down into just prior to full extension. That's the only thing that seals it. If that slideout is not fully in or out, it's not sealed. However, the structure of the entire RV isn't designed for a slide to not be fully extended.
- It will not do any harm. Slides MUST be fully extended or retracted to give a positive seal. With your slide partially extended, you will not have a positive seal. You will have air gaps from the wipe seals. Loss(slight) of AC cooling and furnace heating. If the roof cover protects from rain or snow getting on the slide roof, then water intrusion should not be a problem. Doug
- 10forty2ExplorerI fairly new at the Class A thing, but I would agree with everyone else that the slide should be all in or all out. I don't know this for fact, but it also seems to me that since they were designed to be all in or all out, that partial deployment would be a setup for structural damage to the slide as well. Mine has almost a groove that it kind of "falls" into when it goes out... which lets me know it's there. When it's retracted, it seems to rise out of the groove and then comes in. Looks like to me if it was partially deployed, it would be in a position to teeter on the rails since the inside framework help to support it once it reaches full out position. Just my $.02 worth....
- M_GO_BLUE1ExplorerIn or out...no in-between
- gboppExplorerI'm curious, will you be living in the RV or just storing it for the winter?
- Executive45Explorer IIIClose it completely if you can't open it all the way. That's the only way it'll seal..dirt, rain, moisture, critters..take your pick.....Dennis
- othertonkaExplorerIf you are parking it, why do you need the galley slide open? Just curious. I would leave it closed.
- camper19709ExplorerWill it do any harm? I do not know but I would not leave my slides partially in or out. If nothing else it may leave an opening for critters to get in the rig.
