- Toxed2lossExplorerI'm not doing it for either reason, Mowermech. I needed an older model RV because it takes at least 15 years for the toxins to outgas from the main materials. A newer one would be far too toxic! I stripped out the petroleum based linoleum and carpet and replaced it with strand bamboo. I replaced the cab carpet with organic wool. I've sealed all the other toxic hard surfaces and replaced all the window materials/curtains with organic cotton. Same with the bed. I'm remodeling it so it operates as a Medical Isolation Unit, and accommodates my disabilities. Mine is perfect for my needs. The investment is in health, not dollars. Its saving my life.
- BrianinMichiganExplorerI know because of some delamination on the back corner of mine that there is a steel corner frame. I could not get the original corner trim screws to catch any wood but found if I used 3" screws it grabbed into some metal. Had to predrill of course.
- mowermechExplorerIf you restore it as a hobby or as a "labor of love", that's fine.
If you are thinking of the restoration as an investment, you are quite possibly delusional. It is very doubtful you will get anywhere near what you invest in it in return.
As for the framing issue, others have answered that. If still in doubt, remove a roof vent and take a look inside the roof - Toxed2lossExplorerThanks for the link Geocritter! It was very helpful!
I own and am remodeling a 1998 Georgie Boy Maverick. - cdl2ExplorerWe had a 1996 Cruise master.......metal frame.
It was a good coach, except the P 30 chassis took a while to get into shape. - GeocritterExplorerHere's a link to someone's questions about a mid-90's vintage Georgie Boy http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/24863753.cfm in this link is a diagram showing square tubular aluminum framing.
Steve - Kayteg1Explorer IIThe best way to detect metal frame is take a look on cold and wet morning.
Metal posts show condensation even via the siding.
Steel frame should be easy to detect with magnet, while stud finders do have wire detection, that also should work on aluminium frame. - DachristianmanExplorerI believe it would have welded tubular aluminum wall construction. I don't think the Georgie Boy line used wood in the roof or walls.
Tom - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThere is always someone more interested in beating you down than offering useful information. I hope someone will be able to come along and get you the information you need. Ask me about my 1988 RV.
- kaxExplorerLOL...but you didn't answer the question.
