Power failure

I think our Fleetwood Fiesta 34B is possessed by Isil...we are plugged in to shore power but the lights, fan, fridge, a/c, hot water heater, TV all start to flake out and only work when we turn on the RV engine. This is new and we are full timers so it either gets very hot or very cold in here and I am not sure what is costing us more...gas or booze. Any thoughts other than rehab?

  • I second the Power Max converter. Your converter is probably located under the ref. Remove the screws that hold the grate on and it should be screwed to the floor. You will need a Allen wrench set, a cheap Volt Ohm Resistance meter for checking the converter output. Disconnect both house battery cables, remove the attaching screws, unplug from 120 AC and carefully put the converter and attached DC wires out from under the ref. With one output lead disconnected, it should be putting out 13 - 13.5 volts DC when plugged into 120 AC. WFCO converters are not the only ones that go bad. When the problem is resolved, hook everything back up and attach the battery cables.
    Good luck.
  • All the other advice is sound but the first thing is to check and clean ALL connections from the batteries to the connections leaving the inverter

Do you have an owners manual and all the paperwork with all the devices and appliances in your motor home/RV/5th wheel? I'd start there, going through all of them and reading them.

Reading the Owners Manuals will give you a lot of insight as to how things work.

In the event your converter, if it's a WFCO 8955 POS, has failed, proceed to step 2.

    Step 2

  • What they said.
Put a meter on the converter and see what it is putting out.

And/Or replace the coach battery that just might be dead and gone and can't hold any charge and time to replace.

Second on the converter (Or charger section of an INVerter)

Could be nothing more than a tripped breaker, blown fuse or on my Damon, I the converter is a plug in model and some idiot keeps pulling the plug (ME of course).

But if it's shot.. Randy, best converter, Ask about a Progressive Dynamics Intella-power replacement converter, They do not come better than the charge wizard if you have flooded wet cell batteries.
  • Sounds like you converter or inverter has failed(charger section on whichever one you have for charging batteries)..therefore batteries are not being recharged UNTIL you run engine.....then they get a charge and 12V DC system works

Everything you mentioned not working requires 12V DC...even if you have an inverter cause it draws from battery
