Power to Satellite and Switch

Hi,
I have a Winegard stationary satellite dish mounted on my roof, there is a lighted switch that I think powers it mounted inside one of the cabinets. There is no power at the switch, does anyone know where the power for this comes from, I checked the fuses but nothing says anything about the Satellite. Also I don't know if this is related but the box that has all the switches for the entertainment system doesn't have power to it either and I can't find the fuse for that either. Both of them have wires going into the ceiling so I can't follow them.

Welcome to the forum and to RVing.

First some information. The switch for the dome satellite antenna is a rocker switch which may have a functional light in it. The switch for the Over The Air (OTA) antenna is a small button on a plate that looks like a connector plate. It must be on (turns on an amplifier) for over the air TV.

I do not have and have not had your brand of coach so I can not help any further.

A great help to you and others is to include details of your coach in your signature, check out mine below. If I ask a question about my coach anyone knows immediately year make and model not to mention what I tow.

Have fun, eventually you will track down the wires and in the process you will learn where things are - many coaches have fuses in several places, on mine they are in an outside compartment below the driver, in an internal compartment in my back close. In a previous gas coach they were above the drivers left foot and under the hood.

Look for a Holiday Rambler board on IRV2 for people who have your specific coach to help out.
  • I have a 2006 Holiday Rambler and it is set up for DirectTV, but I'm not subscribed yet, I wanted to make sure it worked before signing up. There is power to the DirectTV box and the DVD player. I can play DVD's up front but cannot get the rear TV to play anything, it comes on but no picture. The big switch up front seems like it has a light in the power button showing on or off.

It sounds like you have a dome antenna. If so, that on/off switch has nothing to do with the tiny green light found on a small wall plate with a slide switch on push button. That's for your OTA TV antenna and has nothing to do with satellite.
If you do have a dome then there should be power there but the light often burns out so you cannot use the switch as a power indicator. If you have remove the panel and verified there is no power coming to the switch the best thing to do is follow the wires from that switch to some other 12V wire connection. Many folks use the Winegard OTA TV power supply (the one I mentioned with the tiny green light) and tap that wiring to power the dome. However, there are many power options so you will need to do a bit of wire tracing and then find out if a connection is disconnected of a separate circuit has blown a fuse.
  • Do you have a SAT. Receaver? (Dish or DIrecTv?)
The switch box may not need power. Mine does not have any.
Give us year and make of RV.
  • Need some more information but I assume your RV is rather old. I am guessing that is the power switch for the air antenna amplifier. Older dishes that are stationary do not use any power at all, unless its a in motion dish (located under a dome). Could be that your entertainment box runs on a inverter and that you have it off. However it does sound like a bad fuse somewhere.
