PVC pipe has crack

Lowes carries a product that is made especially for PVC typ piping. It can even be put on a wet surface. Sorry I can't remember the name but I used it on my shower drain in an area that would be virtually impossible to replace without removing the shower and its held for over 5 years now.

Thank you for all the excellent suggestions.The crack isn't big enough to warrant replacing the pipe, so will try using ABC cement or some epoxy.

My yard sprinkler system has had several cracks in the PVC pipe over the years. Used to dig a big hole, cut out the pipe and put in a new piece. It was thin wall pipe, not even schedule 40. House builder saved a penny or two.....

One day I bought some Epoxy putty designed to be used on PVC in wet conditions. I applied it over the offending crack and let it sit for 24 hours. That was a couple years ago and it and a couple more are holding fine even with 80lb of pressure.

So go to Lowes,etc and get the Epoxy putty, it will do the job.

Drill 1/16 inch holes just beyond each end of the crack and repair as described above. The holes prevent the crack from propagating. I have had success with Water Weld. You may have to open up the crack to stuff in the epoxy.

If it is a crack, drill a small hole at the end and beginning of the crack to prevent is from spreading longer

Fixed ours 5 yrs ago with epoxy left over from a boat project and some fiberglass cloth. Since it's under the trailer, I didn't bother with looks.

Just wrapped the cloth around a couple times and then wet out the cloth with the epoxy.

There is a repair that is made of two halves that you glue over the crack area. It may never leak as there is only gravity pressure.

If its a short crack go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a rubber fernco coupling and cut out the bad piece of pipe. If its a longer crack get two rubber couplings and a piece of pipe. Now you'll have a flexible joint and will never crack again.

That's a pretty common place for a crack - are you sure your pipe is PVC (white)? Most of the time they are ABS (black), at least in my experience.

There are plenty of ways to patch pipes, but if your crack is like mine it was due to a long, unsupported run between the tank and the gate valve.

On mine, I ended up replacing the section of pipe and adding a few more supports.

For me, the peace of mind was worth it to do a replacement v. a patch job.

Try eternabond tape.
