Question on counter space and storage

So we are looking at class C's with bunks. One of the issues we keep finding is the lack of counter space! how do you prepare anything or have a coffee maker and toaster (or other appliance) out at the same time? even with the small extension there isn`t enough room. we keep going back to the Sunseeker 3170DS although the other manufacturers and models with the bunks have the same issues. even the class A's

And with the bunks, where do the kids put their clothes? didn`t even think about this until last night when my wife brought it up. we like the models with the bunks that turn into either a couch or dinette on the bottom.

I guess we are just spoiled with our current TT. it has plenty of counter space and the kids bunk bedroom has plenty of drawers and storage for their clothes.

What does everyone else do?

Thanks
  • Thanks for the replies so far. The other thing i noticed with the sunseeker is the CCC.....2k lbs! Without doing any math i will be at that with the 4 of us and our camping supplies. 2k isn't much.
  • Yeh, the things you mention are tight in our C.

Our little pantry like storage areas had no shelves, so I made some. I made another shelf in the bedroom over a small countertop and above the window. Also, made another shelf in the small storage area next to the closet. I added several shelves in the bathroom storage areas.

Point is, you can look around and make the areas they give you more useable by adding shelves, etc., then you can stack more junk in there. But you can only go so far with the shelf idea.
  • It can be challenging! We have an old corian sink cutout that I've setup as a stove cover which helps during prep, when use electric griddle, etc. We have a double basin sink and am planning on doing a cover for basin. We also use the dinette table for food prep that can be easily picked up when meal is ready to eat.
  • I've never had a TT but Cs are terrible for storage. There's enough space behind our sink for a toaster and a small Mr. Coffee. We have a power strip on the dinette, too, mainly for computers. We only had DC power there and DH installed AC. I make the most of the ill-designed cabinets by using various sizes of plastic bins. We, too, removed the cabover mattress and use the space mainly for larger items we don't use much. We don't have any storage under the bed - it is all accessed from below, which isn't a lot of help.
  • My rig is counter space challenged also. I use a power strip at the dinette for my coffee maker. I don't use a toaster but it would work there also. There is an outlet right above and I attached the strip to the wall under the window with Velcro. It also works great as a recharging station. I removed the cab-over mattress and use that large space for many things including counter space. I keep a 2-tier basket for fresh fruits and vegetables there. It allows me to keep clutter off the dinette (and away from the dog). The coffee maker was there before I decided I liked it better on the dinette.
