Removing air bed from Winnebago Adventurer 38Q

2016 with the bed on the slide. I want to replace with a foam. Wondering if anyone has removed one and has advice before I go at it.

How does your bed extend and retract with a solid unit?

what do you mean? beds in a slide ? goes in goes out
not sure I understand the question
    thanks
  • The head of the bed folds up and then the slide comes in and bed presses to cabinets on other side.

The Ideal Rest is gone. Did it this morning. We just didn’t like it. Guess we never found our numbers. We love foam and next week the foam goes in. It was easy to remove and at first I took it easy and then remembered wall the junk I have stored in two garages. Pitched it all at the municipal garbage collection. No more clutter. I did remove the foam topper as it is a good one and may be used. Glad we did it because no more mechanical bed and we will sleep on what fits for us.

should have done what I did king sleep number and added the Costco memory foam on top GREAT combination

  • We had a different experience with the Sleep Number air mattress. Our '08 Dynasty came with a king air mattress. It was fine at first until it started 'breaking'. Wands went out and replaced by sleep number, then the pump went out and replaced, then the wands went out again (out of warranty now). Then one side of the bed would not stay inflated.

Near St. Louis, MO, I gathered up all of the Sleep Number paraphernalia and threw it into the dumpster. NEVER again will I have motorized mattress. We went to the local bed store and bought a king-size Beauty Rest mattress with a pillow top. Total Heaven.

That mattress was so comfortable that when we sold the Dynasty, I put that mattress on a bed at home and bought a regular RV mattress for the motorhome just to have something there to sell it.

    Safe travels,
    MM.
  • Yes, as we get older, our preferences seem to crystallize. I almost regret going to air mattresses as we can no longer sleep on normal mattresses. Feels like lying on concrete to us! It takes away our option to use hotels/motels. We just can't sleep there.
  • Those air beds are pricey. Shouldn't have any problems selling it.

We have been sleeping on Select Comfort, home & RV, for nearly 20 yrs and love them.

However, to your question; the beds are basically air bags, so there should be a hole in the plywood forming the bottom of the bed --- to let the air hose in. The air hose is probably clear plastic and is clamped to a spiggot on the air bag; the hose looks to be around 1/2"OD. Once unclamped, the hose can be pulled back down to where the compressor is. The compressor is probably in the cavity below the bed, or perhaps in the belly of the trailer somewhere.

Find the compressor, it is probably an oval around a foot long, 9" wide and 5" high, depending on your make & mdl. Pull the hose down thru the holes to the compressor area. The compressor will be plugged into 110 volt electricity. Unplug it and remove the compressor, hose, etc. The bed (airbags & all) can be removed and discarded. Slap your new mattress on and done!

Thanks for the info. Heading out this morning to storage to have a go at it. Wife loves foam which we have had in all our beds including past motorhomes so foam it is.
