Repair Tape

Many have mentioned a repair tape they keep in their tool box for emergency repairs of things like hyd hose, fuel line etc. Don't remember and can't find in search of "repair tape" what the brand name and good source for this tape would be. I want to repair a small gas leak in my garden tractor fuel tank - plastic tank with a "welded" center seam that is leaking when you fill the tank. Been just filling below that level but would like to repair w/o having to purchase a new tank. If you could provide the name and source for this, I would really appreciate it.

    I have had good luck repairing plastics using Shoo Goo reinforced with fabric. I have used it with woven FG cloth and used a tongue depressor to wet out the cloth with the Shoo Goo. Goop would work also. I have also just used old bed sheets where strength was not important. Just sand area well wipe with acetone or alcohol and put one or 2 strips to cover the crack, let it cure overnight or until it gets hard before you use it.

    Thanks for all the info, may just end up replacing tank. Neighbor has same issue (bought the same brand tractor as me) and we are going to look at best way to repair if possible. This should be fun - how many engineers does it take to fix a garden tractor fuel tank???? :-)

    I think you're looking for "Rescue Tape". They sell it at a lot of RV shows. It only works when you wrap it around itself as "Mr Wizard" described, like around a pipe. You can't use it in strip like pieces on a flat surface.

    Find a plastic cement made for gas/fuel. That's very important.

    The tape comes in various thicknesses and color
    It is silicone self sticking / sealing / vulcanizing

    You will have to wrap it all the way around the tank several times
    The layers will fuse into one solid piece of rubber

    Excellent for electrical connections and for hoses,
    I think there are better ways to fix the gas tank abs cement or maybe fiberglass

    This should be available either online or at an auto parts store.
