Running on one battery

But .... golf cart batteries are TALLER than Group 24 12 volt batteries. This can be a problem in certain RV battery compartments.

For instance our Winnebago battery compartment is not tall enough for golf cart batteries, but is plenty wide enough for two Group 31 batteries end to end. We have a couple of 115AH 12V true deep cycle Group 31 batteries in the compartment. So we wind up with 230 AH of capacity - plus the overall redundancy/reliability situation of having one battery left to power the RV in case the other one should fail on a camping trip.

I guess so. But that's not a fair comparison, since there aren't any group 24 footprint 12v jars with that capacity. the 130AH ones are at least group 31 size. Golf carts are group 24 footprint. So for the same floor space it really is 225 AH for two sixes versus 150Ah for two 12s.

Maybe... But golf cart batteries in general are probably more reliable than 12vs in the first place. Far more robust construction. Id take my chances with 2 6vs and enjoy extra capacity, and trust them in harsher conditions than conventional "deep cycle" 12s. However, a trojan or lifeline branded battery of either type would surely be dependable and the winner over the cheaper of either kind.

Since we now only stay at parks with electric hookups, I now only run on one coach battery. Saved all the cables incase I want to hook up two again. Dick
