Strangest thing seen while camping.

I saw this tread started a few years back. It would be good to hear some stories from everyone. So, What is the strangest or funniest thing you have seen while camping? Could be in a campground or on the road involving a fellow camper.

  • Back in the 1970's we were camped next to a group that had a screened in canopy set up. It was dark and 2 couples were sitting at a table inside the screened in canopy playing cards at a table. The screened door was part way open. In walks a skunk, walks around everyone's feet for a minute and then walks out. They never knew the skunk was there.

  • While camping at a SP we were sitting by the campfire and I looked over by the lake and thought I saw movement grabbed my flashlight and ended up seeing about 15 skunks taking a stroll past didn't bother us and we didn't bother them but talking with the host they come out all the time never smelled them but saw them every night walk by.....:B
  • A few years ago, DH, our friends and I were camping at a decommissioned* campground on a lake in central Oregon. Diane and I had been feeding the chipmunks all day and having a ball. That night, we had a wonderful fire going by the ledge off into the lake. The lake had been receding (a reservoir) so there wasn't any water for quite a ways out. Suddenly, DH got up and using a flashlight looked over the edge and said one word "SKUNK"......Diane and I, both in our 60s, have proven 60 yr old ladies can go over lawn chairs in one giant leap.....:) :) party over!
  • We like to go BC Parks boondocking at Buttle Lake. A few years back we watched this older motorhome come in and try to fit into a site too small to turn into. Finally he wiggled it in, and within a few minutes a bouncing buxom lass came over and asked if we had a broom and dustpan. Her first time camping, and they had tried a closer site to town but it was full, then took a back road to Buttle. Most of the cupboards had launched their contents, and she took it in strike.

A few minutes later the lad comes by, asking if we have water. I point him to the well hand pump. Oh dear.. how to fill the rig? Out of the site again and over to the well and for about two hours he is filling five gallon pails and slopping it into his gravity fill pocket.

I hope the rest of their weekend went the way they planned it, it certainly wasn't the best start!
  • Couple years ago we were camping at Potato Creek State Park in Northern Indiana, (near South Bend, Indiana). We had an evening sun campsite, so behind the campsite was a row of thickly forested trees. My wife had her back to the trees and I was facing her and the trees. We were both watching the fire. It was about 7:30 pm. I looked up from the fire and standing behind my wife, not more than 6 inches was a female deer. Any closer and it's nose would have touched the back of her head. I simply said, "Honey, very slowly turn around!"

I'm not sure who ran faster ... in opposite directions!
  • A strange process we saw recently, involved the lady driver and her male companion backing out of a pull in rv spot.

She has the diesel engine running. He crawls under the rear of the rig, does something, and rolls back out. Then he waves her back to T turn into the roadway.

Once out, the coach stops, he crawls under the rear of the rig, does something and then rolls back out and jumps into the MH.

    They drive off.

I guess the transmission would not shift by itself.......
  • I was camping in a State park in Florida and had a bad downpour for about 1 hour. Two young ladies across from me were tenting, their screen room was destroyed by the wind and rain....

tent collapsed and they were both soaked, carried screen room to dumpster and tossed it out. Rain finally slowed and I headed out to try to help them out. As I walked across from my muddy site to theirs I was surprised as both had their shirts off and were surprised to see me.....but didn't put anything on...

Both of them were in super bad moods and one was yelling at the other that it was her idea to go camp, and she wanted to pack up and leave.

I said that I can help if you want...so I helped them pack their stuff in the car the best we could.....said to keep their 2 brand new chairs for helping them, both hugged me and kissed my cheek, got in their car and drove off, but they did put a t shirt on first! HaHa!
