Sunseeker 3010DS/Forester 3011DS

We are currently debating if we should actually purchase a Class C this size. This unit is 32'3", with everything you need. Downsizing causes quite a bit of anxiety and we want to be comfortable, but we also want to be able to get back to "camping". Which means the state and national parks.

This unit is a little larger than we wanted, but it is a great floor plan. The other model I might consider is the 2650S. It is 28'4". No couch though and smaller counter top, but it still has a walk around bed.

I would love to hear from the folks who have this floor plan or this size class c. Please give me any feed back You have.

Would you have done something different if you could buy again?

Would you purchase this size again? Go smaller? Get a Class A instead?

How much can you carry? Would you go smaller so you can get in more places?

We are on overload and really want some experienced advice.

I am ready to hit the road again.
  • Thanks so much, I guess we will drive it and see how we handle it. My DH wants me to learn to drive it, I am worried about turning with the length. I am famous for tight turns, probably why he didn't want me driving his truck. I think we will try backing and turning and see how we do. I love the 32' floor plan, I think it is just right, my DH thinks it's too big for what we want to do.

I really appreciate all the help. I can only hope it will be somewhat easier to back up than the 35' 5ver on a full size bed 3500 HD truck with a extended cab. I think we were over 50' in length before.
  • Recently got a 2016 Forester 3011DS (with front entertainment center).
We downsized from a Newmar Kountry Star DP. Kountry Star was 38 ft and 15 years old (we bought it new in 2001).

Have had the Forester for about 3 months and have been out 4 times. Approx a week to 10 days each time. Couldn't be happier.
The Forester has plenty of storage, inside and out (a big requirement). A queen walk around bed (another biggie).

First trip out I thought I had 4 issues that needed to be addressed by the dealer. After second trip realized that 3 of the issues were operator error (hate when that happens :) ). Finally boiled it down to 1 real problem (Ford mirror issue not a Forest River issue) and 3 small adjustments.

Forester has plenty of power with the V10 and 6-spd tranny. We have a Honda CRV for a toad.

Downsizing has not been an issue. There is the two of us and the two four-legged fur kids (boxer and golden retriever).

j-d also pointed out some good issues to consider.
Don't hesitate to ask if there's anything specific you would like to
    know.
  • I replied to a thread of yours about Nexus RV, on another site. They do make a relatively short (24'11") model (25P) with a full wall slide out, which has a walk around bed ( a real biggie with my wife).
You do however give up a lot of storage space because of that large slide.
Perhaps their Dallas operation has one you could look at ?
  • Well we just traded off the 2007 Sunseeker 2860DS to a Bounder 34T. We bought it used and we never did have any complaints about it. We hosted for three months but we were only 90 miles from home for one month then 40 for the last two, so going home wasn't a big deal. I think the SS was listed at 31 feet. Was it a little cramped at times, yes, but doable. We never did kill each other. We too like the state/national parks so I get where you are coming from.

The two biggest complaints was weight distribution and trying to keep enough forward. My rear was always about 300-500 pounds over. That and the turning radius of the E-450 is about the same as an aircraft carrier. The 35 foot Bounder turns WAY shorter. But I still am running rear weights near maximum.

Overhead clearance on the class C was lower. When someone follows me in the campground now there is shouts about a drunk driver and parents rush to gather their children.

We don't require a lot of stuff with us so the SS storage was fine. I think your bedroom is laid out the same and the clothes storage is good. We converted the rear closet with wire shelf for random less used things.

    Good luck.

Sounds like you dropped the Phantom from your short list. The Forest River Twins are scoring a lot of points these days.

Class A has more storage and a nicer vista from the driver seat. Unless you like the shade the Class C overhang like some of us do. The vista from parked is better with A for sure. You can wear the Class A Smirk.

Class C is easier to service and repair. Parts and tires, let alone the windshield, are less expensive and more readily available. Less height if that's important. But wider turning circle. Easy in and out of cockpit while traveling. Chassis is more to industry and safety standards. A C is far safer in a crash than most A's.

That split level floor plan lets you get in and out of cockpit and cabover more easily than a full basement plan with high floor all the way forward. Just be sure it isn't a tripping hazard for anybody in your specific crew.
