Tires Michelin vs Yokohama

If your interested in Michelin Tires go to Michelin Tires website and request a tire price quote from a Michelin Rep. As several other posters stated Michelin has a Fleet Tire Program through Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) you have to join FMCA ($50.00) and register a credit card with Michelin (the same CC that you'll purchase your tires with) Michelin will then contact you to which Fleet tire dealer is nearest to you. Then your fleet purchase agreement will be sent to Michelin Tire and they will reimburse money back into your credit card account. I saved $768.00 for 6 tires compared to another Michelin Dealer who was not a participant of the fleet program.

Executive...please stop passing on erroneous info. When referencing tire compounds your'e a bit out of your element. ....those whom don't know love to pass along these types of things. Elements of tire compounding are virtually the same for all highway use tires...including passenger and large truck. And RVs. Your RV tire, probably a 22.5, is built and compounded the same as the rest including truck. Even the same type bead as the larger 24.5s.

X 4 or 5 on Michelin thru FMCA.

OK, fair enough..I said I wasn't an engineer. And, thinking maybe my memory wasn't as sharp as I thought it was, I went back and did my research....guess what...:h...I was CORRECT....:S

Dennis, I called Michelins factory and was told that they use a totally different compound in the XRV tire than the compound in there other truck tires and if I'm not mistaken it says this on the XRV part of Michelins website. Michelin told me that they do this in the XRV to make a softer tire due to motorhome applications : ie: motorhomes sit more than they move therefore a softer tire is warranted for that application! The XRV also has the UV Protection added into the compound!

How about the Michelin XCA, XPS-Rib, XZA, XZA1, XZA2 Energy, XZA3 Everthread, XZE, and XZE*? Michelin list these all as RV tires.

I agree that these are recommended for RV use and many are used on RVs but these tires were engineered as commercial truck tires and that remains their primary market. Michelin's only RV specific tire is the XRV.

Is a four year warranty good? They last longer than that don't they?

It all depends on how well you take care of them. Proper inflation at all times, don't hit any road hazards or curbs, and protecting them from the UV and other environmental hazards. Many claim to change them out on a 6 or 7 year time period. Some people change out 2 at a time every other year. Some claim to get 10 years out of the high line RV tires, but many are leery of pushing them that long because of the coach damage they can inflict when they blow out! But what actually comes out in the wash is how well you take care of them!!! And most RVers are lax at taking care of their tires.

Oh, your question about the warranty. Read the warranty fine print. It is not set up to offer you much protection, with so many exclusions. You are at the mercy of the dealer who is adjusting the tire. Plus you have to haul the "defective" tire back to a dealer. Many don't want to mess with that heavy tire and let the ERS take care of it.

I agree with Pat's post! I use Michelins Quality Care Maintenance Program it's on there website and my first set of Michelin tires lasted 10 years.
