Vin and Serial number versus title

We recently purchased a used motorhome from a local dealler. The title says its a 2006, the vin number, window sticker (found in MH paperwork) and serial number say its a 2005. Called Holiday Rambler and they say its a 2005.

Told the dealer they have the paperwork wrong and they blew me off, what to do?

Also hello, been lurking for a while getting some really great tips, Thanks!!!

  • You have been given good information. It is no big deal, it is standard practices in the RV industry to title a vehicle the year of completion and not the chassis year. I have owned two Class C, both had a chassis completion date one year behind the title date. 1990 rockwoood Chassis 1989, 1997 Four Winds Chassis 1996. It's just the norm for the industry.
  • Thanks for the replies so far, the chassis is a 2004 F53, the MH is what is called 2005.
  • Like RR says, it's not all that unusual for the chassis to be older than the rest of the MH. It will depend on when it was built, but I've got a 2001 Winnie, but Ford Chassis is listed as a 2000.
Not much to worry about, as long as the numbers (VIN) matches the Title.
  • No uncommon almost all motor home chassis are a year older than the model of the MH. Mine is titled as 2012 even though the vin says it is a 2011. Are you sure the serial number says it is the same year as the vin does.
  • He probably blew you off because he sold it priced as a 2006. If he admits it is a 2005 you will probably be upset that you over paid. Since he basically falsified the paperwork, IMHO the deal is not legal. Take it back and either make him fix it or demand your money back as the deal is not legal.
