Vin, spark plug etc

1) Why does the vin# i have say a different year (2003) than what i was told/registered with dmv? i was told it could be the vin for the chassis, then how can i prove to future buyer it is a 2004 and not a 2003?

2) Both of the cig lighters don't work.. i don't know where the spark plug is to replace it.. i'm trying to plug in my phone to charge it and nothing happens..

3) Why is there a hot metal smell coming from underneath after i park it?

4) My gear shift keeps coming off, i have to "jimmy rig" it to stay on.. or should i take it in?
  • RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Assn) recognizes that RV's are "multistage vehicles" and are built by two different manufacturers. They have provided a statement explaining manufacture date and model year. You may want to keep a copy with your records.. Most/many RV's fit into this category.

    Motorhome- Split Model years

Use caution replacing the cigarette lighter (power point), often the 12v connection is always hot.
  • The 10th digit of you VIN is the year produced so a '3' would make it a 2003 model. You can google "VIN decoder" for the meaning of the rest of a 17 digit VIN.
You can buy replacement cigarette lighter/power receptacles at Auto supply stores and swap it our pretty easily in most cases, but check to make sure you have a live connection first...good luck
  • We had to replace a couple of our 12 volt (cigarette lighter) recepticles.
They all (4 total) worked electrically and supplied power, but two (dash and outside entertainment center) must have been designed for a skinny cigarette lighter: a standard 12 v accessory plug would not fit. Almost, but not quite. We had those two replaced and all has worked well ever since.
  • normal thing. Our Itasca is registered by the DMV as a 2005, but chassis VIN says its a 2004 chassis. common..

  • It is common for a motorhome to be built on the previous years chassis.
YOur year is the model year the Motorhome was built not the chassis.
We would need more info on your rig in order to help yu furthur
