what are some questions i should ask when buying my 1st?

what should i ask the rv sales person when buying my first rv?
if i am paying in full for this rv that is new.

thanks
  • Buy gently used. You can get a LOT more for your money, and a lot of the bugs will be already cured.
  • Tell them to demonstrate everything on the coach as to how it works. The levelers, inverter, where the fuse compartment is, and the circuit breakers for AC circuits.

Most sales persons do not know much about the coaches they sell, so that does create a problem. Ask them what kind of inverter the coach has, and if it can power a refrigerator for 24hrs of dry camping.

Ask the sales person if he can knock off at least 25% off the list price of the coach. If not, then walk away.

Ask what kind of warranty the dealer has to offer without buying extended warranty.

Caterpillar used to give unlimited mileage warranty or five years on the engine. If it has a Cummins ask them what kind of warranty they will have on their engines now. Same for the transmissions.
  • everything agreed Too in writing. Bargain like crazy. Do your homework on prices etc. Don't be in a hurry. Took me two weeks to buy my last one.
  • Get in writing anything that you are promised from them! That way your protected!

Dealer Fees for setup etc. (Ripoff)
Comparisons to theirs of comparable brands, like water capacities etc.

why is Dealer Fees for setup etc. a (Ripoff)?

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a ripoff but it is extra profit in the dealers pocket.

Work the best deal you can negotiate and then tell them to either get rid of the documentation fee or at least split it with you. Some times you cannot get them to remove the "fee" because doing so could open them up to a discrimination suit as in charging fees on some customers but not others.

When you start narowing down your choice of RVs I would come back on here ask the community for some advice and opinions (beware that you will get very strong opinions sometimes.)
