- J-RoosterExplorerWhen I was in Arizona one year my RV was hit broadside direct hit on my propane system by a runaway truck with no driver. And it just happened to be in the month of December/January when the Winnebago factory is shut down for the holiday season so no parts! Our Insurance Company Geico offered to put us in a hotel/ motel for a month and pick up all expenses occurred. We turned them down and drove back home via towed to Washington.
- Sully2ExplorerGet a wrecker!
- johnggExplorerI have Geico
They are 24 7. But the trucking company is not.
I ain't heard a peep outta them science Friday. - DuctapeExplorerThere are insurers with 24 hour claims offices. Was that something you shopped for when choosing coverage?
Unfortunately there's no controlling the actions or insurance status of the other party, which makes it all the more important to be mindful of our own choices.
When necessary I have always relied on my own insurer to do what needed done and then left it to them to go after the liable party. Less stressful that way.
Something to think about when choosing coverage. - johnggExplorerThat uninsured motorists is a good idea. I just
Put that to my insurance company. They will do that
It's just really sad that a victim can't get a fair
Shake from the insurance industry. Laws need to change
You should have access to a company 24 hours a day.
Crashes don't take a Holliday insurance shouldn't either - DSDP_DonExplorerNot to make matters worse, but you need to come up with a plan. The trucking company is going to total your rig.....it's 36 years old.
I would be putting together some numbers on what you paid for it, how much you recently invested and try and find some comparable numbers of similar motor homes. The insurance will either haul it away and pay you off, or you might be able to buy it back, be a few dollars ahead, but will have to fix the damage. - okhmbldrExplorerIf your state has uninsured motorist coverage on your policy, then your insurance will work for you. Until the other drivers insurance steps up and pays the claim they are considered uninsured, technically. So, let your company work for you. But I agree, you should be on the phone with the other company this morning. Be sure they understand that you are stranded because of their drivers action.
Also, I don't think I remember you posting where your are stranded. Maybe someone on this forum is close and could lend a hand. You might give it a try. - 2112Explorer IIDang this suxs.
Contact YOUR insurance company and explain the situation to them. They may or may not represent you but you will not know until you contact them. You need someone on the inside on your side. Otherwise you will be stuck in that parking lot for some time.
Were you legally parked?
If this is your home and can somehow prove it the trucker's insurance should owe you for housing until settled. This is no different than if the truck plowed through someone's stick & brick home.
Requiring them to provide housing will also be the incentive for them to expedite your claim. They lose $$ every day it's not settled.
I hate to say it but if your insurance company will not provide representation or continued counsel you may have to hire a lawyer to assure you are properly represented. That should be your last recourse once you believe the trucker's insurance is railroading you.
Best of luck to you. - I do think you could still work with your insurance company. I would at least try talking with them about getting something going with the other guy. They seem to work together better than the individual can.
