Wheel "Simulators" (covers) on Duallies

Has anyone else had problems with "simulators" (e.g. covers) detaching from rear dual wheels on Class C's? We have lost two from two different rigs.-both on the right side. The first on a BT Cruiser might have been as a result of a incidental contact with a stone wall perhaps knocking the unit out of round, while the second (a 2010 Four Winds) is a total mystery. We even secured the other with a bungee. Only noticed it missing after a day long drive - just hope no one was injured behind us when it detached

We were able to get a replacement simulator on line

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Buy yourself some rather inexpensive Pacific Dualies stainless steel wheel liners. We have had these very same ones from this guy in Waverly, NE for over 10 years and they still look like new. Click my "view profile". Do call Arlan @ 1-800-420-5872 8am-10pm cst, he can help you with this type of wheel liner.
  • We've gone through a number of them on our Four Winds.
We have an additional problem: the imitation wheel nuts come out. We currently have 2 hub caps with only about half the nuts.
  • Had the same problem. I sold the remaining ones-lots of responses to my Craigslist ad so clearly a common problem-and ordered a new set from Pacific Dualies. They are held on by 4 of the 8 lug nuts and the caps are securely bolted to the covers, so no chance of a loss. Good quality stuff!

When they come off your tire extenders that are attached the cover goes also. Instant flat tire can result.

If I had infinite time, I'd probably get rid of the simulators and paint the wheels themselves nicely. It's hard enough to get to the valve stems with the twelve "hand" hole Ford wheels, and having simulators with slightly smaller holes doesn't make it one bit easier!

What is needed is a extended valve stem that will let you quickly check your tire pressure. They add no extra weight like the Extenders and are not attached to the simulators.
The best on the market, that are the original, are Tire Man

Chuck is the original designer of these an he has been around for years. If you have any questions just give him a call, he is always happy to help.

The kit looks like This it is for all 6 wheels, they also come with flow-thru valve caps so you don't even need to take then off to check the pressure.

Here is a list of all the products he sells.
  • My wheel simulators are held on with two nuts that thread onto the ends of the studs above the real lug nuts. I believe they're made by Dicor, though I'd have to check to be positive.

  • after 35k mi of louisiana trails, on an out of state trip, the simulators felt they could slack off on better roads, but a bump somewhere in missoure took out the right rear one.

since they all squawk at low speed and hinder tire pressure checks, we let our rig parade around au natural

  • I no longer own a C but had a similar issue once, got home from a camping trip and one was gone. On my next rig I'll be leery of the covers that are just held on by friction and will look for ones with some sort of positive connection, like bolts or screws.
  • Lost the center cap on my dually last week. $110.00 later and it looks normal again. But, now Im gun shy about losing another one.
