Window Fabrics, bed covers, etc

I have looked at numerous new and used RV's. I have seen the most hideous fabrics used that is imaginable. Wouldn't it be nice if units came with just leather and wood and a person could do their own "decorating" with fabrics of their choice? My vision for the Tiffin Breeze would be the Ivory Creme walls and cabinets. I'd use BRIGHT solid colors (such as red or cobalt blue)for the window coverings, along with brightly colored throw rugs on the floor to match. :-0

My thoughts exactly. I read somewhere about the guy who founded one of the big companies (Tiffin, I think?) whose philosophy was that an owner should feel like he was at home. I disagree with that (it isn't exactly a home in the conventional sense), and further with what every builder seems to think "home" looks like.

I wonder if some builder could make a class A with all the mechanicals in place (sorta like rough-in for a conventional home) and leave decor, furniture, cabinetry, up to the buyer. It isn't like automobile mass production anyway, where the cars are coming off the floor 10X an hour or something, making customisation impractical.

OK, not just that, but why does every window have to be exactly different from the one next to it?
  • I left a Arctic Fox factory rep. speechless during a conversation on this topic, while attending a show a while back. I asked if their primary market for the line was still the typically outdoorsman type, fishing, hunting etc? He said, sure is, that's what we are famous for. I then asked if they ever though of using focus groups, or any other technique to find out what the buyer wants, instead of dressing the insides up like a Victorian whore house? Suddenly, he was out of words, LOL
  • Our Discovery came with very neutral colors, cream couch, black recliners and cream colored carpet. The fabric on the cornices are very pleasing to both of us and it came with matching pillows for the couch and the bed room. DH refuses to let me hang things on the walls, so I purchased accents to put on the shelves and by the kitchen sink.
  • I honestly think they do those to hide imperfections. I mean "confetti pattern"... Really? LOL Harder to see scuffs, dings, and productions mistakes when they are so busy.
  • We've redecorated in stages.

First, we ordered our unit with the best neutral fabric selection instead of a primary color they had at the time: Golden Brown. The same gold fabric that was on the couch is on the cornices. I'd rather have crème walls than the golden yellow. But that was beyond our limits of ordering.

But then we moved out most of the neutral furniture into the trade-in, put in our leather Lazyboy's, added area rugs (we're on our 3rd set), added the curtains I had made for previous Suite. The cornices hold the tension curtain rods quite well. Then where I didn't have a curtain to fit, I bought a few coordinating panels and found throw pillows in matching colors. I'm always making new afghans with bright yarn to protect the leather headrest.

When the pillows wear out, or I get tired of them and the other curtain panels, I can buy new ones at Target that coordinate.

With purchased pictures from our travels, ours feels colorful, completely unique, not Cookie Cutter. That's why we love 5th wheels over MH's. It's easier to switch furniture, etc.
  • Wife's first comment in 2003 when we bought our first used RV, "who's the decorator on these things , Stevie Wonder?"
  • Downtheroad, you've left everyone speechless. Looks like the Madonna Inn in CA, only more tasteful.
  • I agree. Ours was hideous from the factory. We gutted our rig and re-decorated. Here is what we did with our bedroom slide.

  • I can't figure out either why they can't use color combinations and patterns that are a little more subdued to allow you decorate in multiple ways to your own taste. There are interior designers that could be employed to help select interior design that would be much more acceptable.
  • I know, lol. About all you can do is hope your favorite floor plan has a color scheme that is not too offensive! And those pelmets and valences! Too much!
