We have been using our RV at our daughter's softball tournaments as a way to get the girls out of the heat in between games. It does great until the afternoons and our windshield just produces too much heat. I don't always have a choice in the direction that we can park so sometimes we are stuck catching the afternoon sun.My question - What screen/product do you guys recommend as far as keeping the heat minimized from the windshield? It seems like something on the outside would be best as it blocks the sun from hitting the glass. If possible, I would love something that was effective but didn't block out all the light.Thoughts? Recommendations?

I was all ready to suggest the foil windshield cover for Class A's from CW, then I saw you wanted light. I have gone to Home Depot and gotten beige shade cloth and used grommets to make holes. I used this with bungees for the dog pen to create shade. But you could get some suction cup hooks to secure it to the glass and put this over your windshield. It won't block all the sun but it may help and allow some light in as well.

We use tan shade cloth on the outside of our front window. In addition I opened up the cabinets above the driver seat and stuffed more insulation in there behind where the TV and cabinets are. There was nothing, zero, nada for insulation in that area. If you are letting a bunch of girls in your RV you will have quite the battle keeping it cool. Between the doors opening and the bodies your AC will probably never keep up. We used our RV for our sons HS wrestling events. Nice to take a break in between matches and not go anywhere.

We have Prompt Sunscreens on our windshield and drivers side window and they work great. Takes less than 1 minute to install and no snaps, or ladder needed. We have had ours since 2005 and very satisfied. They come in several colors, ours are gray and match our MH. We opted for the Magnashade product. Works well and is easy to install and take down.

We live in AZ also and know the sun can be extreme. We made our own sun shades, wasn't real difficult if you have the ability to sew. We used magnets to attach them to the outside windshield. We used a material called Phifertex and bought it locally in Tempe.

We used a product called Sunblocker on the front windshield, it is a film like the ole photogrey glasses that changes to darker the more sun that shines on it. I use it on my pickup as well as the RV. Their is a definate reduction in the amount of heat inside the RV. It is legal here in South Carolina and my tint guy charged me $200 for the pickup, and $300 for our RV.

Another vote for mangashade. They connect to the outside using magnets so the sun does not enter the coach. You can see through them. They come in various colors and are custom made for your windows. They are a great company to work with.

We already have power window shades for the windshield but you really need something more to block the heat and light.

Visit your local favorite home improvement center and spend so time in the insulation isle. You should see rolls of 4' wide silver mylar insulation. About $35 later and you have a way to insulate your windshield and side windows from the sun. For our motorhome, we use the material at full width for the windshield (which happens to be 4' tall) and just slide it up under the power shade area. If you need to, you can also use Velcro to mount it.

Heat gain (and loss) drops really fast with that stuff in place.

We also have used the Prompt screen for the past 8 years and it has held up well. Whatever you get, get a dark color. The company provides very fast service and makes it for your specific RV so it fits well. People think a white or light color will let you see out better but not so. Ours is dark brown and makes any view outstanding. You'll be able to see the homers at the softball games!

You're correct on not letting the sun beat on your windshield. There's two ways to go...

1. Get custom made sunscreens...CW and others sell them. We have Sunguard, but Prompt, MCD and others are available. Just depends on your budget.
2. Make them yourself...shade cloth is available at Home Depot. Cut to fit and use magnets inside and outside your windshield to hold them in place. Maybe not as attractive, but all you're trying to do is make it cooler.

You can see OUT fine, whichever option you choose. You cannot see IN during the day but can at night if your lights are on. Use the clicky below to see the difference....Dennis
