Our basement a/c works great. One little thing we really like is there is not a stream of water condensation running off the roof with the basement a/c.
Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages, but now, I did see a large Newell, not long ago, with 3 roof airs. Wonder why?
I have seen Prevosts with five roof air conditioners, and I also wondered why so many?
Not so much the question of why so many and this Newell had 3, which was about right, considering it's size. The real question is and with a coach that costs so much money, why did they not use basement air, instead, if it's so much better? Having backups is nice, but it's not the whole argument. I mean we have coaches out there, with basement ac, that would be lucky to pay the taxes on some of these higher end coaches with roof air.
Here in the tropics, our stick houses have the air handler in the attic and the vents are in the ceiling. Now why is that.... and maybe because hot air rises and cold air falls
Basement air in not always better, the air can be limited around the unit causing it not to operate to it's full capacity. The units on the roof can expel the heat a little better.
Another reason is that basement space it taken by a basement unit. The 'real estate' on the roof is free and wide-open.
