Would a dead house battery disable 12V when on shore power

Can you bring a 12V battery along and hook it up temporarily. It does not have to be an automobile battery for testing things, though it would be better to have one. Given your uncertainty with size, you could get by with a motor cycle or lawn tractor battery for the 12v test.
