Griddle For Camp Chef Question

I have a Camp Chef Explorer 2 burner stove and looking to add a griddle to it. One of our trips we have a good size group (20+) so looking at either 1 large or 2 small Camp Chef griddles specific for this stove that can accommodate. The non-reversible Pro griddle.

I know there is for and against. Only need to cook a small amount and have the small griddle, easier and less to clean than the large one. Or can keep food separated if need be with 2 separate. Same price at Gander Mountain. Storing either shouldn't be an issue (I hope! Lol).

So which route would you go with?

TY!

  • I considered a large skillet, but trying to maximize the stove top. Main reason I haven't considered a Lodge griddle as there would still be "unused" space on the stove.

I do have the Lodge 5 pc set as well, just looking to increase (mainly) breakfast capacity. Main reason I would get 2 if I go with the 1/2 size griddle.

I have considered the grill or pizza oven, but we have a Coleman Roadtrip already, and don't see us cooking a pizza while camping. But if we were to, probably take the smoker to cook it.

    TY for the suggestion!
  • I have the camp chef same size. I mainly use it for big pots of low country boil or boiled peanuts. I also have the pizza oven which is awesome.

I have two big skillets and a Teflon electric griddle so if I bought a Camp Chef griddle I would get the small one so I could use it next to the grill box.
  • You might want to consider a large steel or cast iron skillet. As mentioned the sides keep the food in place. Plus it can multi-task for other dishes and campfire cooking thus save space in your rig that way. Here's an example of a 20" steel skillet called the big daddy.

By the way, we enjoy our old Camp Chef 2 burner as well.
  • Large skillet

I don't know how many griddles I have bought and given away. As recently as last year I bought a huge stainless steel one to cover both burners. Just two huge hot spots and it tries to warp.

So back to the old tried and true huge skillet. It evens out the heat or you can slide it off to the side to have a hot spot and a cooler spot to slide cooked things over. The sides prevent you from feeding the dogs so often. My mother gave me one of these and I had it hanging for almost two years before I gave it a try. You can cook large or small quantities and it will keep tons of fried potatoes nice and hot. Room to scramble eggs and fry bacon too.
Storage is not that bad. It is one that I will never part with.
  • I just looked at these this weekend at CW and priced them on the interweb too. Nice addition to your cookware. if you have double burner why not two plates or the larger one other than cost. BUT i have friend who bought a flat grill from Lowe's last year and that thing is the bomb.very nice to griddle on.. I want to burn a ribeye but so far all we have cooked was burners and dogs.
Its nice so I thing the ones that go on the double stove would be too.
