microwave/convection oven combo

I use some Pyrex dishes and also silicone bakeware in my oven.

My DW does not even want me to try the convection oven feature in our rig, therefore, I can't tell you anything about what works best in a convection oven. I will tell you that every cooking aide, tool and pots/pans, we have in the rig is either from our kitchen or identical to that in the S&B. We have pyrex, aluminum, steel and some silicone tools. If it didn't break while raising two girls and making them cook once a week or so, it won't likely break in the RV.

If you'll Google the model number of the convection/microwave you have, you should find a manual that will tell you everything you want to know. There are much bigger questions than just which cookware. These are somewhat complicated units and manuals will have specifics about which settings cook what, etc. For more than just zapping something like a beverage, reading this manual is very important.

And... these microwave/convection ovens are not all the same so, unless you are getting advise from someone experienced with your specific model, the advice still won't do you much good.

Read the manual first and then go on from there, if need be.

We use cast iron for cooking cornbread in the convection mode. But in microwave mode or combo mode you need to use heat proof non metal cookware.

In convection mode, I use regular metal pans to bake bread, pizza, cakes, muffins, etc. I use pyrex for casseroles, meatloaf, pies, etc. I love the convection 'side' of the oven. These are based on what I previously owned before going fulltime.

In microwave mode, I use paper plates, pyrex, plastic - whatever is handy and not metal. We really only use the microwave to reheat.

When using the microwave - use they type of dishes/paper/plastic you normally do. When using the convection oven, you can use any type of dish or metal pan you would normally use in a regular oven. Do make sure you have the metal racks that go in it. If you do not have a manual, go online and you should be able to find one for your make/model to help you get started. I had never had one prior to the motorhome and I love it. I have baked anything and everything in it with great success. Remember to either reduce the cooking time by 5 minutes (approx) or reduce the temp by 25 degrees from a regular recipe.

This has been a helpful post for me, too. Recently bought a 2013 Itasca Navion with the MW Convection and I have no experience using. So far just using the MW function but I'd love to bake in it.

I noticed the instruction on it regarding the rack, but ours is missing so I need to look into a replacement.

I just wish the darn door swung open in the right direction in the somewhat narrow corridor there. Last night while dodging it as I removed a Pyrex dish of steaming broccoli, I tilted and broke the glass lid.

When I use the microwave portion of my combo, I follow normal microwave rules. I use regular oven cookware for the convection part. I must say I had many issues with the RV brand that came in our 5th wheel and had it replaced 3 times under warranty. By the way, you do not get a new warranty with each replacement, just the originals one. We finally gave up and installed a GE model that was an exact fit. It works much better and I have not had any more issues. When using the convection portion, just keep an eye on your food. I find that some things cook faster and some need more cooking time. My GE automatically reduces the selected temp by 25 degrees on convection bake.

I also have one that I am perplexed with. I downloaded the manual online and it still didn't help much. It was very brief. I would love to expand our cooking potential by not being a microwave only person. I have to admit that it freaks me out a little to put metal into a microwave. :)
