Need advise on which turkey fryer / steamer to buy

My only thought is about frying a turkey. If you've never done it you may find like most people that it is too much of a mess and an expense. You either have a lot of oil to clean and store, or you're dumping a lot of money. I tried it for awhile when I had enough people to feed that it was worthwhile, but I quickly decided that while it was very good it wasn't worth the trouble.
I bought a Big Easy and haven't looked back. It isn't much bigger that the turkey pot, produces a bird that is very comparable to one deep fried and other than a catch pan and basket to wipe or clean it is easy.While I haven't tried frying chicken in it, someone on here, sorry I can't remember their names, did and it looked like a success.
Aside from that the other use you plan should work out great.

To DickB yes I will take it with me in the 5th wheel. Already have a place to keep it in mind.

Based on the feedback here and from what I saw I think we will be building our setup in pieces. I'm looking at the following:

According to the burner box it was not designed to cook a turkey. When I looked into this I discovered it was because the burner does not have an automatic switch off at 15minutes that all the turkey fryers do. That's the only difference.

SD, Is there anything you can't cook???

SWMO, was a plow disc and now universal cooking device.

Is that a wok or a plow disc? At any rate it looks like a great way to feed a crowd breakfast.

Is this to take along on your RV? You must have lots of room and plan to use it frequently. Otherwise can't see the justification for the purchase.

We deep fried many a turkey, chicken, french fries and lots of other things in ours. It was aluminum and did a very good job. Miss all that deep fried food. We also went to the big easy.

I agree with the aluminum, it transfers heat better and it doesn't sound you'll be using it for anything that requires SS.
I don't know about the frying part for turkey. I did a few, but the Big Easy turns out about the same product without all the mess and hassle. They do make great fish or fryers for fried chicken though. Plenty of BTU's to maintain a good temperature.

Dave, when you start looking / comparing units, look for the highest btu rating you can get. I also like having an auto start versus having to use a lighter wand everytime. I've got one that requires a lighter wand to light and I lose the hair on my arm a lot with that unit.
