- CroweExplorerI think you are better off going to a boutique pet store that focuses on food than you are asking your vet. I have never had a vet recommend anything other than something like Science Diet - and all of those large name brand foods have had recalls, and are usually made somewhere over sees.
And those boutique stores are ONLY going to carry expensive brands and try to convince you that's what you need. That's the whole purpose of a boutique store. I must have the only vet clinic that tells you to feed whatever works for YOUR dog with guidance if the dog has special issues. Many places will steer you towards what they sell but if they try to force a food on you ask why and feel free to just say no. - rockhillmanorExplorer III feed:
Blue Buffalo
Life Protection Formula
Chicken/Rice
blue bag
IMHO, JMHO, IMHO, JMHO switching to Taste of the Wild is a drastic change especially with a dog that just started having seizures.
The protein is from animals such as bison, salmon, venison, duck and OMG wild boar.:R All foreign proteins for a dog that has been on a diet of chicken, beef etc.
Not to mention that wild boar carry the most serious contagious diseases to dogs. Like I would trust the source, handling, cooking of wild boar from a pet food company.
Dropping to an all grain free will also reduce the amount of sugars available from carbs. Something a seizure dog needs if that is out of balance and is when, inbetween and during seizing. - OaklevelExplorerI would stay with what ever you are currently feeding your dog if its working no need to change do not give into the hype....... We have always feed Purina our oldest dog is 16 & doing fine......
Our vet says if it is working no need to change. - Bionic_ManExplorerI think you are better off going to a boutique pet store that focuses on food than you are asking your vet. Look at it this way. If a person has dietery issues, they go to a Registered Dietician, not an MD. I believe the same applies here.
In regard to the ones you mention, we fed Taste of the Wild up until they were sold to Diamond. We now feed Evangers, and are happy with it. Someone mentioned Fromm's. I would go that over the other two mentioned. - Mr__CamperExplorer

I'm in the "check with your vet" crew. I'd also read the labels and make sure you pick a food with the right ingredients. Although one may be considered "better" overall you need to watch out for fillers or other ingredients and the affects they may have. Haven't used Taste of the Wild but switched from Blue Buffalo to Purina Pro Plan because the boys just weren't doing that well on it. PPP has been great.
We agree and that includes Pasha. That's what we are switching her back to. - CroweExplorerI'm in the "check with your vet" crew. Check with your vet about which food would be best for him. I used to feed Blue Buffalo to Champ and Andy, but with health issues sometimes you need to go to Prescription Diet. I also heard that Fromm's is a good food. If I find out more information from our sheltie rescue group, I'll pass it on to you. Shelties are sensitive and prone to seizures too.

We completely agree. We faced the same issue with our 5 year old and the vet switched her food type and just gave the okay to slowly begin to switch her off it back to her previous favorite. - colliehaulerExplorer IIII bought a 15 lbs bag of Taste of Wild prairie. Bud ate a few bites. He has had a rough day.
- TimberdogExplorerT of W is a great food, our poodle won't eat anything else.
- downtheroadExplorerWe feed our Britts -Origen..
