Chromecast eating up my data?

Just looked at my Verizon data use and was surprised to see the amount of data I had used. I have 10gb per month and use my phone as a modem, while on the camping. Only spent a week out of the month camping but have used almost 7gb of data.

Getting to the point: I used very little data in the conventional method but did use Chromecast to show a couple of videos that were stored on my hard drive, never associating that with data use. Apparently, even though the phone/modem only acts as, what I would call, an intermediary between the computer and the Chromecast it must use data just like it would if I were watching Netflix. It appears that, maybe, it is using data both uploading the video and downloading to the tv.

In the past, I have used an HDMI cable to watch videos stored on my hard drive, but got the Chromecast to eliminate using cables. Apparently it was not that simple. Normally, thinking back, my data use would only have been only 1 to 2 gb for the period I was camping. Maybe someone here is familiar with this and can verify if this Chromecast is about to bust my data use.
