DirecTv DVR Use With No Sat Signal

HR24 DVR. I have the latest software to supposedly use the DVR to view recorded shows. How do you get to the LIST when first powering up the DVR without it going thru the painfully long "searching for sats" routine. I tried every button on the remote but it just kept searching.

Thanx

  • I don't think it was ever a Dish issue, but if you are a DirecTV customer then that's very good news.
Don't forget your portable antenna on the next trip!
  • I just took my DVR on a one week trip the week before July 4th. Unfortunately for us, the camp ground was very full and we wound up with a site where I was unable to find an opening in the trees. I had seen discussions about this problem and was worried that we would not be able to watch some of the movies we had recorded. We had no problems watching the recordings! I don't know if we were lucky or that is how it is supposed now. But it worked great.
  • Bill, I finally got the new software update 0x6d8 on 6/18' and it does now play dvr without sat signal since then. Thanks for all the help. I have tuned the dvr off and over several days (not unplugged) and played recordings. Sky
  • I don't believe so. It fixed somethings like the DVR going dead at 12 hours even if left powered on and there was some kind of an issue where it would work for 6 minutes and then reset. I am not 100% sure it all were resolved.

If you lose power to the DVR with the antenna stowed (stored) you will not be able to get to any of the programming on your DVR. You need to ensure that you have the antenna up and pointed and the DVR remains powered on before you store (store) your antenna. That means the DVR needs to remain on an inverter or shore power anytime the antenna is not pointed to the satellite.
Wasn't that the issue the new software was supposed to fix? There are 14 pages about it on another thread.

  • i cancelled the setup and kept pressing the menu item for my recorded programs. once it gets there, your good until you loose power...
  • Eventually it should relinquish control to you and the Menu (or List) button.
