I'm taking "direct connect" literally. Nothing but coax between the receiver and the dish, correct?
What kind of dish? Do you have a meter? If so connect it right next to the receiver and see if you are getting a signal. My guess is that you are not. Its more likely something to do with the connection or the dish itself than the receiver.
