NOCO G 7200 Battery minder

Well, for years I have been using my old reliable Battery Minder in my Bats over the winter..
This past summer I replaced my batteries with 2 Lifeline group 31 AGM batteries, while chatting with the folks at lifeline, they recommended the NOCO G7200 battery minder.

I ordered online and it’s now hooked up and looking good, with 1 question??
While reading the instructions, it says not to use under the 32 degree mark??

I called NOCO, and emailed their help line several times with no answers, anyone here have any history with NOCO, will I be ok? I am in the North East, and temps are usually in the low 30’s as a high, and usually in the teens or 20’s . .

  • I have since received a response from the manufacturer...-

"The unit can be used in temps down to -4?. When it is below 32? we simply want to use the cold/AGM setting as opposed to the 12V norm, to better condition the battery in colder temps"

    Thanks for the feedback !
  • Thanks for the replies so far..

My batteries are and were at 100% when the G7200 was put on them.. I am using it as a maintainer only. The battery shut off is "OFF " so there is no draw on the batteries, and charging will/should be minimal . .

Hopefully I will hear back from NOCO shortly..
  • The NOCO G7200 is a very good 7.2 amp battery charger.

I have been using one for three years on an AGM battery I use as a backup to my security system.

Sorry I can not address the 30 degree application.

Mine is used in Arizona and has worked in 110 degree F.

The main reason I went with the NOCO G7200 it will return to whatever setting you have set the charger to after a power interruption.

Many battery chargers will not even restart after a power interruption let alone return to the setting prior to the power interruption.

The NOCO G7200 can be used on conventional wet cell lead batteries, AGM and lithium batteries.
  • This is assuming that there is no actual drain on the batteries:

IF.....the batteries are healthy and fully charged going in.....there is no need for a maintenance charger below 30 F because the "self discharge" almost disappears when it's that cold.

In addition, a healthy AGM should easily sit for several months with NO noticeable loss of charge even without a charger.

I have no idea why they make that recommendation......but following it should NOT create any problem

A battery in FULL DISCHARGE can freeze at 30 Degrees. And hooking a charger to it can cause bad things to happen.

HOWEVER a battery at full charge is good to Somewhere south of -40

ALso the voltage need to charge and float is temperature dependent.

HOWEVER .. without research I do not recall if it goes UP or DOWN as heat rises.. And I don't feel like the research just now.
  • No good under 32? Makes that unit unsuitable for many RVers. Surprising.
