Replacement laptop battery options...?

I bought my Dell laptop used. It came with a cheap no-name battery. One day, the computer went dark without warning. The power section of the motherboard was fried, and the battery's internal fuse was blown. Did the motherboard take out the battery, or did the battery take out the motherboard? I'll never know, but to try and be safe when I replaced the motherboard I also switched to a Dell branded battery. IMO the Toshiba Satellite laptops are darn nice machines and worth the price of the new battery.

I have a Asus Netbook and it had a very small battery that died in about 3 years of use, picked up a 2.5 hour battery from an on line store and it is great. Less than half the price of a factory replacement battery. Buying off brands is often a **** shoot, the ones available for our hugely outdated SWB cordless phone are all dung. I bought a brand name, not Nikon, replacement battery for my p510 with a charger and a couple other cables for less than half of what Nikon charges. Sometimes you luck out and sometime you lose.

Seventy five bucks for a battery on an 8 year old laptop?? Reminds me of the story of the guy who went into the auto parts store and said he needed a cigarette lighter for his Yugo. The parts guy said "that sounds like a fair trade!" Don't see the value here either.

I've been using an Anker brand laptop battery in my Toshiba for a few years and it has held up well for a $28 Amazon buy.

My experience is with Dell computers, but I have never had any luck with non-OEM batteries. I have tried them, and always had to send them back, finally getting the battery from the manufacturer of the computer.

I tried an off brand replacement battery when I had my old Dell laptop. That battery didn't last a 2 years. Couldn't hold a charge.

My two year old Toshiba has an internal battery still going strong. Hope it continues. I would not know how to replace the battery without taking it to a service center and paying $$.

I am using a Toshiba with a two year old E-Bay battery that will run about 1.5 hours. It cost some where around $30.00 dollars.

You can get a great DELL TOP OF THE LINE LAPTOP on QVC/HSN sales on TV... They come with lots of accessories and you get the no interest 6-easy monthly payments.

I finally have replaced my four computers here doing this. Just paid the last one off last month...
