I also would add I live in Florida and maybe others never lose their signal but during the rainy season, we lose our signal almost daily, SD or otherwise.

I agree Genie shouldn't matter as its the same between the dish and initial rcvr as the non-Genie. The Genie multi box part is wifi; non sat related.

I WOULD question your alignment but you can check that yourself thru the sat signal strength screen.

First of all I have always had an extra charge for additional receivers, no problem with that. I now had in addition a charge "for watching Directv on multiple TV's" $6. Lucky? For almost 20 years? Must be as it just started showing up. Second, have had HD for almost 6 years. NEVER had an outage unless snow collected on the dish. Service rep said same to him and said Genie was more susceptible to signal loss, his words not mine, however he put in new LNB, power inserter, pulled some new cables and checked alignment on the dish. Lost signal at least 10 time this year. Third, was told a year ago that my $78 bill would go up $3, total $81' They changed out two SD receivers of my four receivers for HD receivers no charge making all my receivers HD. Only other charged was $50 for the install. Did not work for a day and had to come and pull a couple of cables. Then the lost signals came with storms. Third guy was described above. My bill was up about $10 more, was explained a customer service rep made a mistake when they quoted me the first time. Last bill I lost a discount and got it back with a call. But now this bill has the extra $6 charge making my bill $97 for the same HD TV only with a Genie. Everyone confused now? It doesn't add up. Guess I was "lucky" again?
Another problem, we both like the Directv and hate to lose it. So I guess we let them keep sticking it in our butt and consider ourselves "lucky"?

More edit. I also had an HDR before the Genie and was paying that fee, again I have no problem with that charge.

First, there is simply no such thing as "multiple TV's" charge. You can have 1 receiver connected to 100 TV's and you will not pay any more than if that 1 receiver was connected to 1 TV.
If you have an old bill and a new bill, please let us know where the additional charges come from. In the past you would not have had the Whole House option so we know about the extra $3/month but I am confused about what you had, what you now have and where you say the extra charges are coming from. It all sounds correct to me so I appear to still be missing something. Break it down for us and show the break down from a previous bill and the break down from you current bill. Maybe we can get you some better information.
Hardware issues seem to be speculative as my Genie has been great but then I have not seen a lot of rain here in the Western US. When I have lost HD I changed to SD and the programming was usually available. I don't work for DirecTV or even care if folks do or do not have good service with the service. If you only came to vent and had no interest in feedback I would have preferred you to have posted that initially. Otherwise, folks try to understand what you might be experiencing and try to offer help. I apologize for having attempted to do so.

When I was a kid (about 55 years ago) if you would have told me that I would be spending $1500.oo a year one day for TV I would have told you that "you're Crazy".

But back then there were three channels, and they were only in black and white, plus snow.

Don't know what you guys do to your stuff. I've never had a problem with my directv stuff. only thing I don't like is we are forced to watch local channels here in eastern Oregon and by local I mean washington tv news. we are getting ready to vote in about a month and I have heard nothing but washington politicial news. I think the washington news stations should give us equal time for oregon news as they do for washington news.

Over the air would be another problem. LOL . New roof last year had them leave the antenna off. Had one broken tentacle so I just tossed it and took out those cables I could find. Think I made my own luck there. LOL. Been married 15 years long after I had sat. TV. Took me 10 of those to teach her how to use it. Might be worth the reaming I'm getting to keep it. LOL again.

Theres plenty over the air, Free. News, network shows Broadcast Sports All in HD thats better than Sat or Cable. That and Netflix , Huluplus etc on the internet via Roku or others. BUT you do Give up ESPN, Food channel, outdoor channel etc.
When you've had enough Cut the SAT/Cord ! I did for 3 whole wonderful years and really never regretted it. I only have it back :( Because my Daughter ( Who will be Buying our house next year) moved back in and is paying for it .. Her choice.

It's a love hate relationship with most satellite and cable providers to say the least. DW can't live without it, but she sure complains when having to pay the bill. That I know of we have always paid monthly for each receiver whether it was Dish or Directv.

We have Netflix and Hulu Plus as well and they have some good stuff to watch, mentioned to my DW that we should cut Sat service, alas it will never happen as that is the first thing I have to set-up after unhitching our rig.

Don't expect change as they have no reason to, they have what we want and don't worry about disgruntled customers much. They may give small allowances from time to time, but in the end they always win everytime you pay your bill.

Here's one even Direct TV claims they never heard of before. We have the Genie and less than 2 months ago the hard drive died and we lost all we had recorded. They replaced the box and "gave us" two free pay per view movies (which we never watch!). Yesterday, while I was watching something I had recorded on the DVR, all the rest of what we had recorded disappeared - and was replaced with what our next door neighbor had recorded on his box (he also has Direct TV - his own dish, his own system!). DH spent over an hour on the phone with technical services - including a call back from management. The conclusion - "This is a first for us!!! Sorry, we have no idea how it all happened. It may be 'in the cloud' but as of now there is no way for you to retrieve it. We apologize for your inconvenience." They offered to send someone to check the system. DH asked if there was anything else that could be done in our home that wasn't already tried. The answer was "no". Why then, he asked, would it be worthwhile for us to wait for a service call? The answer was, simply, "I don't know". At least she was honest. We declined the service call offer. Meanwhile, trying to find rebroadcasts of the numerous children's movies (for the grands!) and special documentaries (like the Ken Burns'series on the Roosevelts) that were lost "in the cloud"! FRUSTRATING, to say the least!
