Actually tried reading the manual. It is so generic it is practically useless---and nowhere does it discuss this feature.

It looks like the Vip612 is just what I need. I see that the outfit in your link is selling them for about half of what they run at Amazon. They say that you might get a refurbished set-that Dish sends them a mix and you can't tell, whereas Amazon says nothing about it. So am I right in thinking that the link you gave is essentially a refurbished price?

What they are saying is you might get refurbished and you might get new. But with this model, I would bet there are not any new ones left around. Count on it being refurbished.

I have the hopper at home but for the motorhome with their help purchased the vip211k @ campingworld for $99.00 Then had it added to my dish account for $7.00/month and you can have it turned on and off as needed.
here are the features of the vip211k I like the best.
hd compatible, over the air tuner, can be turned into a dvr but adding a usb hard drive.

It only has one dish tuner but the over the air tuner is the 2nd tuner and you can actually record on both at the same time... or you can watch on one and record on the other

I would guess it would also depend on how you use your RV and whether you do a lot of boondocking. The 211 is the receiver with the lowest power draw, or at least that's what I've been told. And it does have a USB port that can be used for an external hard drive for DVR. But it only has 1 tuner input so, like has been said, it can not record 1 show while watching another.

Dish VIP612DVR. Records one or 2 programs from the satellite at the same time, plus one from the antenna for locals if you choose.

my dish 625 is a dual system and records. only needs one wire to feed it from the LNBs.

Dish SUX in all respects, service after the sale being the worst.

Just a disgruntled Dish customer so let this comment go. You will find the exact same comments from disgruntled DirecTV customers. You will also find these kinds of posts from people unhappy with Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Netflix.............

Should it take 30 minutes to send a 3 word line e-mail?
Should it down load a video from U tube?
Should it take 20 minutes to open a picture in an e-mail?

Should the company do something about speed?

try calling the 1800- number see what it requires to get a real person.

Dish is a satellite TV provider, you appear to be referring to satellite internet. Dish does re-sell internet services provided by second parties but they are not the service providers. You just jumped into an incorrect topic.
