Why are GPS units so much trouble.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 5 or so years ago that worked most of the time, but occasionally went beserk. On our Christmas trip to South Carolina,it routed us one way going south and another way going north. The northern route wanted us to go in the HOV lanes which we couldn't pulling the trailer. We ended up going through DC with the trailer. No fun.So for our trip this past week to Missouri,I bought a new Rand McNally 7725 RV GPs.It worked fine going to our first stop in Ohio. But when I tried to punch in the address to St Francois State Park in Missouri,it would not accept it.But my Samsung S4 would so we used that.Go figure.
  • You need to make sure all the waypoints you require for your route are there BEFORE you leave! It's easy to add new waypoints as needed.
  • The Garmin Nuvi maps need to be updated every year if you travel a lot. Mine will route you around traffic that's why you get different directions going north and south, east or west. The big problem it doesn't know I'm pulling a TT so I may end up on a dirt road in the middle of a cow pasture, it's done it before. Now I double check it with my phone if it starts telling to make weird turns.
  • Most of them require a little fine tuning, but afterwards work fine. Check your settings and be sure it is to your liking.
  • We have learned (the hard way) to click on the top bar so a list appears detailing the entire route. Then we can evaluate if that is the way we want to go. We have a Garmin Nuvi and the routes given are for cars so we have to modify that sometimes.
