- mgirardoExplorerWho's being "scared" by the scare lights? We had a theft at our seasonal site over the summer. Around 2:30 am, someone walked into the campground from the main road, about 1/8th of a mile, passed the first row, second row and third row. They settled on a site that was 3 in from the main campground road on the 4th row to steal a bicycle. Ironically, the very first site in the first row also had a bicycle that was ignored.
Why? The site that had the bicycle stolen was bright enough to land small aircraft. The site that didn't have the bicycle stolen has no light. Light only helps a thief see what is available to steal.

What the heck is a 'Scare Light' anyway????
Bright white light on the outside of your camper, can be on either side or even both. You know... those annoying things campers leave on all night because they are afraid of the dark. :B - SidecarFlipExplorer IIIReplace it with a retrofit LED and never worry about it again... Problem solved.
What the heck is a 'Scare Light' anyway???? - Beer_BellyExplorerWe had the Porch light burn out on our camper, replaced it with an Automotive Bulb....the Wattage was too high and melted the cover.....double check the Wattage of the original, and replace it with the same. Ours takes a 1003 according to the what is stamped on the Light

What kind of light bulb on the outside my camper take, the one I took out says on the bulb 1156 12v 320p and where can I purchase them instead of a RV store?
Thank you.
1156 is a standard Automotive Backup light. Auto Zone. Discount Auto. NAPA O'Rilleys. Gas stations.. Joe's hardware.. Lowe's. Home Depot. Wal*mart...
IN short it would take less time to type out where you Can NOT buy them. anywhere that sells automotive light.
One request TURN THE BLASTED THING OFF.. Some folks like to leave 'em on all night. if I had a Shotgun I'd turn 'em off.. remotely. - Happycamper30ExplorerThank you everyone for the helpful posts.

- DutchmenSportExplorerThe 1156 and 1157 bulbs have been around almost as long as automobiles started having lights.
1156 is a standard 12 volt automotive bulb. It has a single filament and has 2 guide posts (little catches) on each side of the bulb shaft so it can inserted in the socket either direction.
The 1157 is a a 12 volt automotive bulb, but it has 2 filmanents. One filament is for turn signal and stop light, the other is a running light when you turn running lights on at night. The 1157 has 2 side posts also of different heights. It has to be inserted correctly so the stop-turn filament is right and the running light is right.
When picking one up, make sure you get the right one, as they look identical, unless you look close and see one has 1 filament and the other has two. Also, the single filament (1156) comes with a clear glass and they also come with a yellow glass.
You can purchase them pretty much anywhere, any automotive store, like Napa, even WallMart in the Automotive section. Sometimes, even grocery stores have them if they have a small section for automotive where they sell automotive motor oil. I have found that convenience stores and most gas stations do not sell these any more. They make their money off lottery tickets now! - gboppExplorerMost hardware stores will probably have the bulb.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIEven Walmart carries them in the automotive bulb section.
