- D___MExplorerI'm from Maryland and I object to the ranking we got. We are a lot worse that that. Just having Eliajh Cummings for a Congressman should be worth a one spot drop. I'll have to write to our Governor "Little Marty O'Money"and tell him he needs to really increase our taxes.
Maryland's moto is "If you can dream it, we can tax it" - silvercorvetteExplorer

I paid 1/3 the property tax in CA due to living in same house over 30 years. Fire insurance is way cheaper in CA when you have a fire hydraunt close by and fire station less than a mile away. Pricey car insurance. Don't have to drive far to shop but getting out of town to camp was a major project. Most of our camping was sailing up & down the coast because we were a mile from beach.
silvercorvette. As a retired LEO you have a 50 state CCW. So why did bring up that issue?
I was pointing out that most people that do not have the right to carry in 50 states are probably the people that need it most. As we get older we are not as strong a we were when we were younger which should be something people should consider. Also people that are not familiar with the area they are visiting may accidentally wander into a high crime area. There were a few times I made a wrong turn and discovered I was in what might be considered a bad part of town. I was comforted by the fact I had the ability to protect myself but there are many people that do not have the option that retired police officers do. - Chris_BryantExplorer II

How you need to work WY is buy rrigated farm land & lease it out. It will pay your property taxes. If you own the property you basically live there free. You can build a large metal bldg with living quarters. JMHO
Just make certain you own the mineral rights, or you are sol. - WyoTravelerExplorerHow you need to work WY is buy rrigated farm land & lease it out. It will pay your property taxes. If you own the property you basically live there free. You can build a large metal bldg with living quarters. JMHO

I think he brings that up for the benefit of the rest of us....that aren't as lucky. LOL i dont talk gun stuff here either but he is right. I wont even travel to the states with opressive gun laws anymore. I dont want to get hung on some loophole. NY safe law...gag. What a shame cause its such a pretty state at least what ive seen. Off my soap box.
The more I read about where to retire the more I wonder if a few locations isnt the best idea. Im years away from retirement but I could envision a small place in ohio and one in SC. If nothing else a concrete pad and small garage for storage. - WyoTravelerExplorerI paid 1/3 the property tax in CA due to living in same house over 30 years. NY assesses no income tax on federal or state pensions.
Never mind, got my answer. - pitchExplorer IINY is definetly not on that list, but I would not live anywhere else. Our 4 season climate is about perfect. Property taxes are high, but registration fees are much lower than other states. We have good roads and infrastructure compared to many other states. NY assesses no income tax on federal or state pensions.
we have a very low crime rate and even with this new state SAFE law I am allowed to arm myself adequately to defend my household legally.
INMHO if you need to base your retirement home on the basis of tax, you are, one either living to close to the bone, or two, have more money than any human being needs.
You have to live where you love and for me at least financial matters do not enter into the equasion. - tvfrfiremanExplorerI have seen these articles before. Just the other day they had the best ten. I would not live in any of those places due to the humidity. We live in Oregon and have found other places more costly especially California. Lots of folks have been moving to Portland but we are thinking of moving as the rain and my arthritis don't work well together. Quality of life is our first priority.
