2015 Jeep Cherokee

We have a 2010 Jeep Liberty that has been a great vehicle. The only thing I don't like is the tight legroom area for the driver. I have an old knee injury and the confined leg area aggravates it on longer drives of more than 1/2 hour.

Test drove the new Cherokee and have to say the additional leg room for the driver is really noticeable.

Really liked how the TrailHawk drove and preformed. After doing a quick search it does seem like the new 9-Speed Transmission is giving some problems.

Would really like to hear from those who have a new Cherokee to see what they really think about it.

Thanks
  • I have a 2015 jeep Cherokee latitude and think it is a great car. Use it as a daily driver when we don't want to use Buick Enclave and as a toad. Have not had any problems and would highly recommend this vehicle . Be sure you get 4 wd drive II model for 4 wheel down towing.
  • 2015 Cherokee, 10,000 miles, best car I've owned. Went to dealer recently to get oil and rotation and they did a number of flashes including the one to the transmission. Got back from towing 4,000 miles. On one occasion I ran the toad's front tire over a curb on a right turn (~5 mph) at a tight intersection and it set up a left-right oscillation in the front wheels. Stopped and checked. Straightened steering wheel and all was good for the rest of the trip. My fault for dragging the front end over a curb.
  • The warranty that come with the new car is 5 years 100,000 miles.

transmission case and all internal parts; torque converter; drive/flex plate; transmission range switch; speed sen- sors; pressure sensors; transmission control module; bell housing; oil pan; seals and gaskets for listed components only.
  • I am amazed at posters who are ready to buy a new toad but have not done the research. Use the search function in this forum and sometimes you get the answers. The new 9 speed Chrysler transmission appears to have some major problems. That is the reason some are suggesting the extended warranty. Personally I would not buy a vehicle where I have to buy that warranty due to a malfunctioning tranny. What a shame that the Jeep line is quickly becoming not towable. Probably the most popular and reliable toad!
  • I would not recommend the Jeep Cherokee. I have a 2014. It has developed a tendency to literally "rock" my 15,000 Bounder back and forth.
This happens without warning and under many different circumstances (straight interstate highways, city street, turning on to an on-ramp, etc.)
Research shows it happens with Gas, Diesel pushers, different tow bars, different braking systems.
Chrysler has not sort-out this vehicle. It is made on a front wheel drive platform. It has been to multiple dealer service centers. They are stumped.
    I wasted $35,000.

After 22,000 miles we recently needed a transmission replacement. The new tranny, which I think is a 2015 model does work better than the original. I hope this one lasts longer than the first.

If you buy a Cherokee I would highly recommend the Chrysler max car lifetime extended warranty. I paid $2,000 for the warranty last year and worth the peace of mind.

Extended warranties are a cash cow for the dealerships. I would really look at your mileage per yer and then figure whether or not you need it. The response of replacing a tranny at 22,000 miles is still covered under factory warranty at zero deductible. Extended warranties will have a deductible. If you elect for an extended warranty, the dealerships are in bed with the extended warranty companies and certainly get a healthy profit on the policies they sell. I would suggest bargaining down your interest rate should you want to buy an extended warranty. You can get a minimum 1% discount on your loan rate and make sure they keep your deductible at $100 or less.

The new Cherokee is a well appointed, capable replacement for the Liberty. If you liked a Liberty you will love a Cherokee. I am a big Jeep guy, so I know that the issues the Cherokee may have pale in comparison to the huge problems Chrysler had with reliability issues on the Liberty.

You might think about changing your thread title. Your asking about a 2015 Jeep Liberty - they don't make it anymore. Never made a 2015 or 2014.

    Thanks fixed it.

We haven't had any major issues with our trailhawk. However as you've read there have been some struggles with the new 9 speed tranny. I believe the newer ones coming out have addressed some of those issues.

What it was (is) addresses reprogramming. Some of those having it done have trashed their tranny. The problem in the beginning was not downshifting at speed trying to go up a hill. So I they changed that. Then it started having problems not downshifting into second or first when going slow ( almost to a stop) or turning corners. Some people who are a bit heavy on the foot while coming out of the turn could find it in third instead of first or second ( where it should be). This is what ours is doing after the second flash. If you know what to expect you learn to live with it. Or you can put it in sport and it'll drop to a more appropiate gear.

We really like the way the car rides, comfort level, snow won't stop it, mostly everything about it. The transmission issue does give me some minor concern about its future reliability. Ours was one of the first out and the lease is almost over. We'll probably look at a Grand Cherokee next as I want something slightly bigger. Other than that ours has towed just fine. There are a few ( maybe a couple) on this forum that have experienced some odd towing instability going over bumps. We haven't seen this. IMHO it's more how you setup your towing gear.

All that being said it wouldn't stop me from buying another ( other than wanting bigger) after this one. As any other manufactures the bugs get worked out.
