- murphysranchExplorerI'm a Californian, and I'm furious about this new tax. Yes, all the extra has been swiped for the Bullet train, which is sooo stoopid. SW air just announced a whole bunch of new routes outa Sacramento and with fares so cheap, why would anyone want to take a fast train? And yes the Lottery - they also swiped that money from the schools. Our Moombean Gov is very good at "reallocating"....

And THAT is the "crux" of the problem.. Entirely TOO MANY people who don't care just how much of their hard earned money is vacuumed out of their pockets!
Whether CA raises gas taxes is not on my top 10. Obviously it's on yours. Now go do something about it. - John___AngelaExplorer

I think ya'll need to stop whining about your gas prices is what I think... :( Our gas (metro Vancouver, BC area) is currently at approx. $3.75 USD per gal. - 2nd highest in Canada. Makes California look like a bargain to us.
Our local gas taxes total approx. $1.22 USD per gallon ($0.42 Can per liter). Since we are in a rural area, we don't even get the benefits of what the taxes go towards. Our local tax breakdown:
Well what do you expect, THAT IS HOW YOUR "FREE HEALTHCARE" IS PAID FOR!
Yeah, EVERYTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE IN CANADA, we get that, that is what you get when everything is taxed to pay for all of the "free" stuff handed out like candy to all the non working along with those who do work.
There is no such thing as a "FREE" meal, someone must carry the burden (IE TAXES) to pay for those who don't work or don't want to be burdened to work.
We'll first of all, that is a regional price and most of Canada has lower gas prices. We are 400 KM from Vancouver here and gas and diesel are about 2.89 US per US gallon.
Second of all, the only people who call Canada's health care system free are Americans. Canadians are well aware that our health care is not free. The vast majority are just happy we have one. Yes it is a cultural difference. Our culture believes that health care is a right. Other cultures consider it a privilege. Neither is right or wrong but consider being respectful when speaking to neighbours and other cultures and not talking down to them. That is just bad manners. - fj12ryderExplorer III^^^^^^^^:R

The money will not go to the roads, they have done this 3 other times and the roads are still ****. The Governor has the power to declare any program in financial need and can take the funds from any program. California is always broke but finds funds to help illegals.
Lol...I was wondering when someone would go there because I was thinking while reading all the posts about the same thing. Since they might be loosing govt funding because of having sanctuary cities they are possibly using the tax as a supplement for the loss of govt funds. I know if I ever go there with my RV I will have an extra fuel tank in my truck in order to not buy any more fuel there than necessary. - JarlaxleExplorer II

If, and that's a big if.... the increase in gas tax is used ONLY for highway infrastructure...that will be great and I'm more than willing to pay the increase.:C

Only blue people in blue states believe this. The money goes into the general fund. Monies from the general fund goes to whoever will get a state rep re-elected.
Also known as a "slush fund". - JarlaxleExplorer II

Really, it doesn't matter to California whether you're more than willing or not. If you want gas/diesel you'll pay it. Like it or lump it. :)

Or buy it over the Nevada/Arizona border. I can do over 700 miles without a fuel stop. - RVMikeExplorerA story about corruption (whish it would happen here) I was in China in 2003 on a tour. The highway was 3 years old but felt like a roller coaster. Our tour guide explained that the head of transportation oke'd the lowest bid and got caught taking millions in bribes. Off to jail he goes and vanished 6 months later. 1 year after that it was determined that his family was living from the bribe money and yes they vanished.
