- wa8yxmExplorer IIII have, I think it is a Bissel uprighte and a small floor sweeper (manual powered it brushes the debris up into the dust tray, no bag, no blower) Guess which one works best.. Yup the little auto-broom sweeper.
What I'd like, and used to have but wife did not believe in it, so it went with the house or with the storage unit... Both of which we lost.
Is my FULLER sweeper. not that was a good one. But the Bissel is a good #2.
Fuller Brush Carpet Sweeper
Also works on hard floors
They also make a commercial version, Same price. - MocoondoExplorer II

Consumer reports did some work with Dyson vacs and found them over priced garbage IIRC.
Kind of like Bose, charge a premium and people will think they are getting something special.
You can get power head attachments for carpet for any central vac.
Can you post a link or citation in support of your comment? I subscribe to CR and they give Dyson rave reviews. - VeebyesExplorer III guess as long as the dirt devil runs we will keep using it. The Dyson TV adds irritate me so much I don't think I'd ever buy one.
- Shot-N-AzExplorerI'm ambivalent about the Dyson. I caught it on sale over the holidays with the intention of replacing the canister vac we've been using in the MH. Much better for storage and ease of use, and super on hard floors. However, I'm not impressed that it cleans as deep in the carpet.
I brought it into the house and tried it on a couple of our rugs, and its performance is lacking compared to our upright. Regardless, it's pretty handy and will get the job done in most situations.
There are similar models on the market that are cheaper. I can't speak to their performance, but I do subscribe to the comparison another poster made to the Bose marketing/pricing model. At least $50 of that price is name. - scootskExplorer III

I just checked out consumer report web site. I saw nothing negative written by them about the Dyson, especially the stick vacs. They do balk at the price but if you could find me a compatible stick vac that comes apart easily for storage, coverts to a small hand held style vac for stairs and is capable of accepting tools such as a crevice tool, soil brush, dusting brush and hose, let me know and I'll add that to the mix. This cordless stick vac is the closet comparison to a central vac with its versatility and available tools. - riggspExplorerWe have a Dirt Devil Central Vac with the power head attachment...absolutely no problems with it. We've never used a Dyson, but have tried other brands that didn't work as well as the Dirt Devil.

Dragging that hose around a 37 foot fiver is a pain. We have a Hoover Nanolite and it does a good job. The approx. 12 inch head gets in the tight spots and it has a no brush setting for wood/tile floors. They run $50-$60. Ours is going on 5 years and is used in the sticks and bricks for the master bath and bedroom when not travelling. I notice they are listed as a clearance item on the Hoover site.
Hoover Nano Lite - HalmfamilyExplorerWe have Dirt Devil in our fiver and really like it, does a great job. I would have a hard time spending that much money on a Dyson. Consumer Reports does not rate them very high. Dirt Devil rated better if remember correctly.
- stripitExplorerWhen we were full timing about 3 times a week we used the Dirt Devil central system for cleaning. Sundays I would pull out the Dyson and go to cleaning and it was amazing to see how much that vacuum would pull up out of the carpets. When we are not using the trailer we use the Dyson in the house. For the money it is a sucking machine.
