Cleaning & Waxing TT's

We've only had our TT's for about 2 years now. We've washed them a few times using regular car wash soap and a sponge. So far, so good. I'm curious about waxing the TT's though.

One TT is a fiberglass exterior and then other is the aluminum siding. Any tips on waxing these bad boys? We're about a month from winterizing them. Should we wax before putting them to bed for the winter?

For years (40 plus) I've always used whatever latest "best wax" appeared to be at the time. Put it on regularly and they do the job. I had heard about a product called ReJex, some on this and other forums. Someone gave m a bottle in March to try it out. WOW!!! Is the best way to describe it. This stuff is not a wax, but goes on and off like a liquid wax. Absolutely best shine and protection I've ever had. Comes with money back guarantee. Must be applied with no sun, under 85 degrees and out of sun for 12 hrs. I'll never use anything else. Check reJex.com for info.

Is the out of sun for 12 hours before or after the wax. If before the wax you must be able to see good at night to wax your RV. If after appplying the wax you must trust the cloudy day not turning to rain as rain on anything freshly waxed is not ideal.

  • I use Gel Gloss RV Wax and it works great. My advice, do it all by hand. If you aren't careful, polishers will leave swirl marks that drive me nuts. I wax my trailer at least once a year and generally more frequently depending on the weather.
  • Do you wax the decals?

If yes, are the orbitals safe to use over a decal or could it peal the edge of them?

By hand or with a tool? Any suggestions?

If you use a buffer you MUST and I state MUST use a random orbital. DO NOT use one of those $30-$50 buffers you can get at AutoZone or Walmart. They will marr your paint and you will have swirls galore. Get a Porter Cable 7424 with the appropriate pads to do the job you want to do. Even though I have one I typically apply by hand with a foam applicator and remove with microfiber towels. Do not use a buffer to remove the wax. The pad gets to chalky and will stop removing the wax. Better to us the PC to apply a thin layer and microfiber to remove. Good luck.
  • Put it on by hand. However. Using a buffer to take it off, Depends entirely on your skill level. Many folks burn the paint with a buffer. It is safer to rub it off by hand, and in fact it's just as easy.
  • I use a polymer synthetic wax from Meguires. Just did mine last weekend. My camper is 3 weeks old. From here on out I will probably spray wax it with a synthetic polymer 3x per year on the sides and rear but hand wax the front cap 3x per year. Much quicker and easier to spray wax on, wipe it off then to rub wax on and off. Do the hand wax first then you can just build off this with the spray wax.
  • Seems worth it to wax at least twice a year.
I think the biggest thing is to try to reduce the effects of UV damage.

Yes you should. I use MeQuire's cleaner wax in the spring. Works great on fiberglass, or Aluminium. For the winter. You may just want to put some turtle wax on it for protection. Also works great on either.

However, since you have not ever wax them. Use the Cleaner wax first
