Do I need a WDH and an antisway bar?

Quick YouTube search found this guy. I use my electric tongue jack to raise the tongue high enough that I don't need to use the cheater bar.

Make sure you read your owner's manual regarding weight distribution and your factory air suspension to get the hitch set up correctly. Auto leveling after the hitch is dialed in will change things up. I have a couple of friends that really like their Equalizers.

given my lack of experience towing, if it is at all a close call I will get one. I see the Equalizer name everywhere, is that a good brand to look for?

So the WDH attaches to the trailer frame, got it. And then goes straight into the hitch receiver on my truck? That's what it looks like to me in the pictures, the WDH has a shaft which goes straight into my truck receiver.

Ask the guy that delivered it to the dealer what he used. Nothing, same as what i would with that combo.

You are going to want/need a weight distribution hitch anyhow so you might as well get one with anti-sway built in as they are more effective than sway bars. I used a Reese SC hitch for years and enjoyed stellar performance from it. I believe that hitch innovation has advanced since then offering many new alternatives.

We towed our 8500~lb TT with our F250 for a year with a Reese HP trunnion style with no sway control. Never a problem but push from passing trucks with a crosswind could get annoying after a while. Then I picked up a barely used Equalizer 4 point 10k for a song off of eBay. Took all the push and waggle out of the ride. No drill installation and easy hitch and unhitch. My guess would be you likely won't need a WHD with sway control but you'd like it better with it. Just my opinion based on my own happy experience. Not telling or advising anyone what to do.

Your hitch is rated for 1800 lbs without a WDH. I'd personally give it a shot without and see how it performs. You've got a lot of weight over that front axle with the Cummins sitting on top of it.

Depends on which brand and model. Modern tech WDHs have integrated sway control, instead of old technology friction bars.

Is the WDH something I can move to a different trailer (ie, say I had two trailers) or do I install it on one trailer and it kind of becomes part of the trailer?

It's a separate piece of equipment. You can have brackets attached to the A-frame that stay.

Some old technology WDHs require drilling into the A-frame while newer technology ones, like the Equal-i-zer, use bolt-on parts.
Newer technology ones are easier to transfer to another trailer.
